Still haven't got an "ideal" character, ended up with three that I love
Started out with a rogue, levelled it to 40 through the hell that was a pvp
server before quitting the game in disgust. After a while I decided to give
WoW another go, and figured I liked the rogue class enough to want to give
it another go, hopefully learning a lot more about my class and being less
of a noob. Reached 60 fairly fast, got plenty of soloing done and a few
5-mans, even some odd ZG runs, though I was pretty out of my depth in them.
Started to run out of stuff to do, but played other characters for a bit to
fill the gap to TBC. Come TBC, I levelled to 70, still having a blast,
started on 5-mans, but soon found the ever-present problem of too many
dpsers, so was hard to get groups. I ended up fairly stuck with blue gear
as good as I could get, and hard to get many runs anyway.
Meanwhile, I'd tried most classes, but the one that got furthest and
surprised me the most was my undead priest, who I'd expected not to enjoy,
yet suddenly I was in the 40s and levelling fast, then the 50s and finally
60. I levelled all the way as disc/holy, as shadow just didn't seem "right"
to me, yet it didn't feel slow and was still really fun to play, as well as
helping me in my first attempts at healing in groups. I realised I loved
the class and wanted an Alliance one to group with guildmates, considered a
dwarf but then I heard about the new races coming in TBC and knew I'd want
to try them. Saw the artwork for the draenei and thought "that looks cool,
can they be priests?" Yes, they can was the answer, so I held off on the
dwarf until more info came out.
More screenies and I liked the look even better, then came the day I found
the TBC beta key in my mail... very first thing I did was create a draenei
priest and fell in love immediately. Levelled to 20 on beta, this even
before the racials were announced, and knew I had to make this character on
live. TBC release came, I held off levelling my new priest until my rogue
reached 70, but once that was done I just had to play her, and soon found
myself levelling far faster than I'd expected, again as holy/disc (draenei
being so holy, shadow felt totally wrong, so I never went more than 7
points into it), suddenly I was level 60, less than a month after release.
At this point I slowed a little, as I duoed 60-70 with a friend, but grew
to like the character more and more as I gained experience in healing.
My first Karazhan experience; I was undergeared and scared as heck, but
somehow got through it and gained confidence over later runs until I really
felt I knew what I was doing. First Gruul experience was much the same,
only by this time I was very well-geared indeed so at least knew I wasn't
lacking statswise. Right now I'm at a bit of a dead end, having done
everything available to me; my only options are wait for ZA or go into
serious 25-man raids, but with how hardcore my guild is in 25-mans I'd have
to change guild to do that so... kinda stuck. Oh and meanwhile the undead
priest isn't totally abandoned, he tried shadow for a level but never
enjoyed it, so went back to holy, which I suspect he'll stay as for a long
while - it's so nice levelling and doing 5-mans as holy again.
After the rogue and priest got fairly maxed out at lvl 70, I thought I'd
pick up a warlock for some fun, having duoed with one on my priest for some
time... found I really enjoyed the class and ended up levelling this one
really fast as well, to the point of now being lvl 70 and working on
gearing up. Annoying thing is he'll soon hit the same dead end the other
two have, with the addition of good groups being hard to find so not much
scope for fun groups, but oh well.
Of the alts, the hunter was a fun one as well, though he mainly got as far
as 70 because I needed a gatherer alt and he fitted the bill nicely - BM is
a very powerful build, albeit perhaps not the most exciting, except when it
comes to soloing elite quests. Haven't tried to seriously gear him, I felt
a bit out of my depth in 5-mans, though maybe I'll try the odd pug when my
lock's geared up. Mage was the 2nd class to appeal to me, but for some
reason never fully worked out for me, she just keeps on getting stuck and
levelling slowly. Fire as a build is a blast, love big pyro crits, can't
really understand why this character hasn't got higher tbh!
Paladin was awful at first, retri simply does not suit me and I hated it
(been a rogue too long to enjoy the sloooow swings of 2h weapons).
Eventually discovered the prot levelling build at the point where I needed
a few more levels for 300+ alchemy, and instantly loved it. She's a bit
stuck at the moment as I'm concentrating on other characters, but she'll be
my next 70, unless the undead priest beats her to it, I think - tanking is
the one aspect of the game which I've not done much and I'd like to try
with a pally given how good some pally tanks I've healed are.
Speaking of tanking, my little warrior (I just had to make a gnome female
with pink bunches for comedy value!) has moved very slowly indeed, trying
to level as prot in the teens wasn't my best ever idea, and my dislike of
2h weapons didn't make it any better when I respecced, until I hit 20 and
went dual-wield fury. This build is at least fun, but feels very
gear-dependent; I die way too easily when I get adds, too.
As for other classes, well druid and shaman just never appealed much to me;
I knew nothing about shammies, being alliance, and I'm not really sure why
I didn't like the druid much. Tauren animal forms didn't help much (much
prefer the nelf cat), but unfortunately I dislike night elf "human" form,
so can't really win there. Shaman I might get somewhere with sometime if I
get around to it, having grouped with them a bit enhancement looks
interesting to try, anyway, but given that I've so far failed to get above
lvl 5, it may take a while. However I love the draenei start zones and
haven't done them in ages so probably I'll try soon.
