No OoM with all my AI a/c but with my page file rebuilt and set to
3500MBs min+max. PF usage about 2.9GBs at the moment - but I've got to
the gate again with no errors. Tiny bit of stuttering occasionally,
but nothing serious.
Bit early to say I'm clear of the woods, but it's a hopeful start. If
it works out, then all credit to Danny!!

Does your PC ever need that huge amount of PF space? I doubt it would
ever get close to a 3rd. of it. As I say, with 2GBs of physical RAM,
my page file started pushing 3.0GBs, so I am going to leave it set to
3.5GBs and monitor it - I can alweays increase it slightly if I need
to.

Hi Martin
I don't know to be honest. It was always System Managed and was
sitting around 4GB in size.
PF is something I never think about and it wasn't until reading this
thread that I decided to increase it beyond what it may need.
It's easily changed again but considering I have 1.5TB or hard disk
space it didn't seem big on the scale of things.
If OOM errors are caused by the PF then I don't understand why a
system managed PF doesn't increase before hand if it's running low.
I always thought the PF was a reserved space on the drive to act as
virtual memory in the event that system ram ran out therefore more
system ram means the PF is never used. Perhaps those days are gone
when the pc uses both now which seems a step backwards IMHO.

You're not alone in that. Sometimes it seems the way the page file is
used is arbitrary and mysterious. The basic reason is that Windows
won't change the file too much in response to demands. It's limited in
that way. So it can solve problems by increasing it manually until it's
of a size that's not going to steal too much disk space but large enough
so you don't get those out of memory errors. At least that's how I
understand it. I could be completely way off base.

Another way to get rid of OOM when having more than 2Gb of memory installed
(I simply dismiss the 3Gb situation, why would you disable dual-channel
memory with our current hardware in a computer running FS...) is to install
a 64 bit version of the OS, OOM poof gone disappeared!

Well now I have fixed my Out-of-Memory errors (thread above) my page
file use, even with PMDG and Ultimate Terrain loaded, is less than
half what it was yesterday. It hasn't gone above 1.25 GBs today, and
my RAM unused, after flying for an hour in PMDG 737, was still 800MBs
out of 2GBs.
The culprits, as I said above, were just a few bitmaps - they were
where they should be, but FS9, in its infinite wisdom, was looking for
another set elsewhere. Simply copied them across to the expected
location, and its like having a brand new version of FS9 - light on
resources (well, compared to before!). And I have all sliders pretty
much at max.
It's great to be able to fly now instead of troubleshoot (though I
don't suppose, given past history, it'll be long before something else
goes awry!).

I thought of that - but it'd mean my wiping my PC and starting again.
