Oh yeah, Makes sense! Maybe I got it wrong on the direction of the
bend.

Yes! Good remark!
Bent forward it should be because there is power on the engine. At least you
would expect. If bend backwards, no power.

It's a movie that appeals to individuals with a certain
warped sense of humour, and for some reason, MM, I
think you possess that sense of humour. It's the only
film in which a ferris wheel gets sunk by a Japanese sub.
Starring Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, directed by Steven
Spielberg.

I don't understand that. The a/craft is moving forward so does this not mean
that the prop tips would bend back?

Hang on Iain,
So I can dig up the theory behind this again, before I'm going to stumble
over my words in an effort to explain this correctly. In very short (and
maybe not all the way correct but I'll give it a shot anyway): while under
power, the prop really pulls the plane, or otherwise, lift pointing forward.
The blades may bend (exaggerated) forward like wings bend upward. So when
hitting the ground under (max or almost max) power, the blades will bend to
the forward direction. Any other investigators here to check me on this.
Dudley? Well, just correct me if I'm wrong but that's the way I remembered
it. Check out some Final Investigation Reports on accidents with propeller
driven aircraft. You may find some pictures of props bend forward. Meanwhile
(if I get some time) I'll try to dig up my old books from then..

Thanks Loek, I think I see now. I had forgotten about the flexing forward of
the prop because it is pulling the a/craft forward. So, yes, as the blades
are already bent in that direction they will bend that way.

scenery )
No I could not wait for the weekend ) Just had to land a Blackhawk on the
bridge, and marvel at the view )
Glad the sound effects were missing, or I would have been deaf by now, from
the thundering from that waterfall, no wonder the natives called it
something like "Thunder cloud" )
