I got a tank for the same reason (our ralm is short of tanks).
I was always prot to learn how to tank. Levelled pretty fast just doing
instances, a tank is always needed

1) Check
2) Check
3) Check
I leveled as Arms to MS, then around lvl 40, Triplespecced it to 60, I
then respecced Fury to 68, then prot at 68 to 70 (02/24/07, So I've
had a 70 warrior for almost exactly a year!), now 33/28/0. Needless to
say, I know what you need.
1st spec down Fury to Bloodthirst, you're gonna run Dual wield spec.
Then pickup imp WW.
2nd spec down Prot to Last stand/imp shield block
3rd spec down arms to imp Tclap.
the fury part is the most important, but by the time you'll start
needing the prot, you'll be speccing into it's 3rd tier around level
57-58, which will allow you to fury tank your way to the high 60's.
From there, you can stick with this spec, if you're good, and have
good gear, and a good healer, or you can respec to HEAVY prot for
instancing. I would stick with Fury spec until you have most of all
your questing done in SMV/Netherstorm.
like this:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=LV0cZVVuhxxRVzbZ0Ezoh
once you're ready for full prot, remember, ONLY USE SOLID STAR OF
ELUNE. anything else is a waste. I specced like this for maximum
tankage:

I levelled my first warrior PvE up into TBC as dual-wield Fury, which
I thoroughly enjoyed once the talents began to kick in. Mostly solo,
but along the way I did quite enough tanking with her, with a single
weapon and a shield, to practice the basics, and never had any
problems.
My second warrior is tank for the group of four characters that
friends and I play once a week. She was full Prot until about 48,
which was frankly a pain when she needed to go do stuff on her own. I
finally got fed up of that and respecced her to dual-wield Fury as
well. She's 56 noe, and with a shield and such other tanking kit as
I've acquired along the way (nothing greatly special), she still
manages fine - holds the aggro off the rest of the party well, and
takes damage slowly enough for our healer to keep up in comfort (Disc
priest, so running long rather than running hot) . The only real
challenge I've noticed to date is the hunter's pet, which is quite
capable of pulling the aggro off her if the hunter leaves Growl turned
on (which he does far too often). How much of all that is down to
playing in the same group all the time, of course, and how well she'd
do in a random PuG, is another question - it's possible she'd struggle
if the DPS guys got too enthusiastic too early, for instance. Plus,
as there are only four of us, we're tending to hit the instances maybe
a level or so later than we might otherwise have, and that clearly
puts less stress in turn on the priest to keep her alive. But then,
with only four of us, the big fights tend to be that bit longer, too,
so perhaps it cancels out. Whatever, for what we're doing, it's
proving quite possible to tank at that level with a Fury build; if
anything, in fact, I find it makes you think a little more about what
you're doing and how.
I haven't tried Arms yet, so no personal opinion, but I don't see why
similar comments shouldn't apply.

I think it's probably true with a lot of classes, a good way is to
build up your talents by spreading out among the trees picking the
useful bits from each, until you hit somewhere around level 45 when
you should pick a tree and go all the way in it. For instance, when a
shaman can dual wield with a couple of points in dual wield
specialisation, go for that. Continue to the top of the tree then pick
up useful bits and pieces from elsewhere. That's what I did with
Oggie, I was something like 7/7/25 then switched to 0/0/41 as soon as
I hit 50.

just stay fury the whole way unless you want to pvp then spec arms.
you don't need any protection talents until you hit 70 except for
maybe tactical mastery. >> Stay informed about: How too level a Warrior ???? |

Arms/prot makes for a nice tanking-leveling spec, I found it more
useful than fury/prot since many of the fury talents become useless
once you get +def gear . 35/5/21 gives you decent solo ability, isn't
bad in PvP (last stand and the on-demand stun are nice) and gives you
a lot of extra agro in groups.
As you're leveling, you can leave the protection talents for last
since you really don't need them for the lowbie dungeons. You can have
a 31/5/14 spec with defiance and imp shield block by the time you hit
lvl 60 and start tanking the outland dungeons.

They're incredibly gear dependent, especially the weapons. If the gear
is lame, the warrior will be lame x 5, and if the gear is great the
warrior will be great x 5. I haven't played or seen any other class
that scales so steeply with gear, not even rogues. I believe there's a
strong non-linearity to warrior damage with gear due to rage mostly,
since more damage means more rage which means more damage... so better
gear is heavily leveraged. >> Stay informed about: How too level a Warrior ???? |

No, rogues are incredibly gear dependent, too, just in a different way.
They need great _weapons_, and that's all. It is my assertion that
rogues in greens and quest blues can be viable at 70 as long
as they have both great weapons and at least a smidgeon of knowing
how to play correctly. Armor means dick for a rogue...he's going to
die in heroics if something aggros him anyway unless he can get
Vanish off in 2 seconds. Armor is there to build stats and +to hit/crit/
AP, but isn't as important as having great weapons. Great weapons
means great damage and that's all rogues are supposed to do. >> Stay informed about: How too level a Warrior ???? |
