Well, I definitely would like to see you guys involved. We do not get
to play with you very much. Just for reference, since the Great Lakes
is split into two qualifiers these days, we probably don't need to
worry too much about Ohio. They'll certainly hit the East GLQ and/or
the Origins tourneys.

If Madison is gung-ho for this year, I'm willing to let it go,
especially if it will get more people from more play groups involved.
I am pretty sure that next year, however, I will have not only a good
space but also plenty of room for folks to crash if necessary. But we
can talk about that later.

So does Madison want to go ahead and claim it?

As per the agreement from last year, the 2007 GLQs were in Indiana
and Ohio and the GLQs for 2008 will be in the Chicago area and
Michigan.

If you'd like to be part of the discussion for the 2008 GLQs
(especially if you're from the Chicago area or Michigan), please email
me at ninja ->at<- ofdoom ->dot<- com.

If Chicago was promised the bid this year, I don't have any problem
bowing out.
I still think it's central enough for most of the West/North people to
still make it.

Eric, if you want it, it's all yours.
I'd just like to see the most people with access to the location, I
don't care where it is.

As I understand it, all of us in the region want to have the greatest
number of playgroups attend. I whole-heartedly believe that Madison is
the place for this to occur. Eric Simon has said that he wouldn't mind
at all if Madison has the qualifier (as long as he gets 09, which is
perfect), as it will lead to more people attending 08's and 09's
qualifiers.

To be frank, putting the GLQ West in Chicago this year will prevent
groups from Minnesota from attending. I have been told for 3 years how
great the VTES Community is. How players create friendships, how you
can always dig up a game when visiting a city with a little heads up,
how this is all achieved through nothing more than playing the same
game. We all want this community to include and involve the greatest
number of people. With that in the forefront of the mind, Madison is
the choice. Anywhere else is preventing the community from embracing
new members.

I am unaware of a current discussion. I sent a msg to Ben shortly
after his post. He said he would cc me into the next meeting.
Patiently, I am awaiting that cc. As of last night, Tony too was
awaiting a response from Ben.

I would appreciate an opportunity to present my opinions and arguments
in favor of Madison 2008 in their proper venue. At this point in
time, it appears the decision is a fait accompli; and input from
Minnesota is an exercise in futility at best. Condescension and
disregard are words that also come to mind.

I ask that Tony and I be allowed into the ongoing conversation, before
any hard and fast decisions are made. There are good reasons to hold
a qualifier north of Chicago. I would like an opportunity to present
them.

Tony,

I understand and appreciate your plea for a change venue for this year's
GLQ West. Please keep in mind that the host cities of these qualifiers
change each year. Therefore, some years they will be closer to you than
others. By choosing to live in B.F.E., you have ensured that many things
will be far away from you. Chicago did a great job of hosting a GLQ
several years ago, and is due to host another. If you choose to make the
trip to Chicago, I think you will find it to be worth your time, effort, and
money. On the mailing list that Ben mentioned, there is talk of having GLQ
West in Madison WI in 2009. Please contact Ben to join us on that list for
further discussion.

Jim,

My apologies for not getting you, Tony, and a couple of others added
to the present mailing list. I've been sick and in and out of the
doctor's office for the past two days. I'll make sure to get everyone
updated this evening.
