I hadn't done something different for that number of turns in my
situation I guess, because I didn't get the confirmation message. I
prefer to play extra-cautious and avoid this YASD in the future. I do
sometimes carry a ring of hunger with me to wear when I want to eat
really large tasty corpses and don't have a tinning kit.

I *often* eat while satiated. As long as you have done something
different than eating for, say, 20 turns, you'll get the confirmation
message to "continue eating". I have often been able to eat a giant
corpse that way, when I was satiated to start with.
Just eat the corpse, and answer "no" to continue eating. Then, wait or
search for twenty turns (ie until the turn counter is twenty higher, not
twenty "."-presses). Then, start eating again. Rinse and repeat.
This will more often than not result in you being able to eat the entire
corpse, thus gaining the posssible benefits. Sometimes, when you started
out too satiated, the corpse may disappear before you finish it. It
never causes sickness, though.

I've found zapping spells to be fairly effective in this regard
as well.
And of course, I've learned from experience. In the past, I
once choked on my food with the amulet, not very far below the
plains. In what would have been only my second ascention.
Very frustrating.

Teleportitus is great for that, too. Even works for High-Int Wizards, which
can't spell drain their hunger status. ^T.^T.^T.^T.^T. burns a buttload of
nutrition, real fast.
