Yes, it does all of that with no problems and it also has one of the
best 1080P upscaled images (for the DVD and divx files)

You have to buy the remote controller separately. I bought the
official Sony one from Amazon for $20. It's a bluetooth device, so the
range is pretty good and you don't have to point it to the console.
However, because it works on RF signal, it's not compatible with those
IR-learning universal remotes. This particular problem didn't matter
to me, and I actually liked its bluetooth functionality. Now, there is
an IR based PS3 remote but it doesn't support all the functionalities
that the Sony remote has.
The remote is functional enough, that you can use the built-in web
browser, photo-albums (directly from PS3 internal/external storage or
streamed from another PC) connect to PS network and download movies
and demos and then install those games.
PS3 is not perfectly quiet. It's less noisy than XBox360, but compared
to a regular DVD player, there's a slight sound. If you put it
vertically, the heat build up is somewhat less and the fan doesn't rev
up that much, or in the horizontal position you can leave some
ventilation space to the right of the console which gets more heat.
When viewing quiet movie scenes, I can hear the low humming sound. It
doesn't bother me though. At the highest fan speed, it gets quiet loud
but I have never seen my PS3 hit it in regular operation.
I'd say, noise is a non-issue, but ideally if you can get access to a
PS3 set up in a home environemnt, you can decide for yourself.
Also, if your AV rack is completely closed with some ventilation in
the back, you'll not hear any noise at all.
