Generally, I've never had much trouble getting 8 people most times,
though if I can't find that last one or two I'll generally take what I
have on a mission and try again afterward when other people might be
logged in or LFG.

And it really is true that you get significantly more XP on 8-person
teams than alone. I hit 29 in about a week and a half of play, most of
it on 8-teams. Also, there's more variety of powers, more chances that
there will be useful synergies between characters of different
types. (There's also more chance of finding an idiot on your team,
but, well, you can't have everything.)

Because one had done it before on half a dozen alts and was totally
bored with it?

Well, there are zones like Faultline or Croatoa that have their own
contact arcs which require no introduction. If everybody chose to
start Croatoa missions at the same time, in theory they should be able
to complete them all at the same time.

> Is this an RPG, or a tactical simulation where the back story is

Well, you can't take the backstory at face value because the way it's
set up (the notion that, for the sake of the story, *you* are the only
one who does these missions, and *everybody else* is just wandering
around doing unspecified other stuff that *isn't* those missions) is
so silly that you *have* to ignore at least some of it. You can't have
every single hero in the city be "the one" who hunted down and
arrested Countess Crey, or rescued Statesman from Tyrant; the very
idea is laughable.

> Is "8" a magic number for teams?

It's the number at which you get the most overall XP, so in that sense
yes.

> I see some level 1 players looking for teams too, when you can get
> to level 2 by doing the incredibly easy tutorial mission.

And if they did it on every single one of their alts, it's really
boring and dull. (Though that doesn't stop *me* from doing it, but
that's because it's dumb to pass up the Isolator badge; I never know
who I might want to be a badgehound character.)

How do you get the isolator badge?

I can't imagine how tedious that would be, with only beginner powers,
and no XP per-kill.

Yep, it's a hundred of them, and the training tutorial is the only
time you get a chance to do it so once you leave, you can't do it any
longer. So it takes awhile to kill 100 of them when you are lvl 1 and
have the absolute minimum of powers you are ever going to have, so
teaming to get it can be a big help. Just like Robo you'll see me
going for it each and every time w/ my new alt 'cause you just don't
know if that one will be a badge-whore. Smile

And since they nerfed the Heavies, spawn camping the Contaminated became
more hard.

I like running the tutorial, but I don't get Isolator on all of my
characters.

If I make a magic origin, since my first character is magic and doesn't
have Isolator, none of my magic origin characters will.

Silly, but it's consistent.

I don't understand what that means "doesn't have isolator"

My first character was made before badges were added to the game.

Hence, he does not have the Isolator badge, as he went through the tutorial
in Issue 1

It's not that big a deal, even solo with a weak AT.
The key is to do the tutorial up to the door mission, then go and zap
contaminated before talking to coyote again. Being effectively level 2
makes it easier to hit/damage them.

Actually, you *technically* can. Theoretically.

There's a single Contaminated who spawns once an hour at the tram
station in Recluse's Victory.

It isn't really. Team kills count, which means that the number you
have to take down is split among all the members of your team. And
beginner powers are more than sufficient for taking them down,
especially when you consider the vet reward attacks that are
available.
