I just ordered a Rumblepad. I've never played using console-type
controllers.

So ... what do I need to do to get it working?

What button setups do you recommend (or is that even configurable)?

Solving the riddles of killing the bosses is a 'mini puzzle' that repeats
throughout the entire TR series. I can name a whole bunch of them, but
will settle with just pointing out poor Willard Very Happy

TRA at least the Demo is configurable for the gamepad, just go into the
controller option and follow their instructions. As for what you need, if
it is the same/similar to my older Wingman cordless, or even if it is a USB
corded controller, you should get a disk with it and excellent instructions
(Logitech is good about that), that will run setup and installation of
drivers. Once that is over, you are set.

The Rumblepad came today. I'm not happy with it though. I was expecting more
and easier control. But it's just the opposite.

Aside from the benefit of having the camera angle controlled by a readily
available joystick (instead of having to move your hand over to the mouse),
everything else seems to be worse than the keyboard.

It's damn difficult to walk a straight line (I'm using the left joystick for
walking).

The button response time is poor. I had to get used to pushing jump a bit
early. (On the keyboard, the spacebar was more responsive.)

Also, there's too much going on in the right hand. The left hand has ONLY
the left joystick for walking. Meanwhile, the right hand has to manage the
right joystick and all four buttons (jump, drop, grapple, and interact).

The Rumblepad was even MORE difficult for GTA SA. You really need more than
a dozen buttons to play that game. And that's assuming that you give up some
of the seldom used functions (radio stations, etc.).

I can't imagine how console players can manage.

So ... anyone want to by a very minimally used Rumblepad?

Post subject: Rumblepad bug? [Login to view extended thread Info.]
Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

I'm trying to master the Logitech Rumblepad with TRA.

It has a problem, though.

When I use the left joystick to run and the button (#7 I think) to shoot,
the game sporadically goes into menu mode. I can escape from the menu mode
using the crouch button (#1), but it will intermittently go back into menu
mode.

My fingers are on NO OTHER buttons. Just run (left-hand joystick) and shoot
(right-hand button).

I'm not sure if it's the running that causes it to do that, or the shooting.

But I can just run (no shooting) without getting this problem.

And I can just shoot (no running) without getting this problem.

Is this a Rumblepad bug or a TRA game bug?

Sounds like a rumblepad bug. Check your drivers.

I think I found the answer.

Both joysticks press down. Buttons 11 and 12 I think. The left joystick
button brings up the options menu. (Default setting in TRA).

Apparently, when running and shooting, I must have been pressing button 11.
That button is much stiffer than the regular buttons. But when I was chasing
Rex, I guess I was more enthusiastic with the joystick than I imagined, and
I was pressing the button without realizing it.

I've change the TRA options to ignore that button. (I can use keyboard ESC
to do that job.)

Problem solved.

Bingo!
Yeah the default mapping of the buttons for TRA is pretty
dodge...everytime I was in the middle of a fight up would pop the
freakin' menu...i just changed it to button 9 or 10 i think.
As for walking in a straight line and getting the right hand to handle
everything...give it time! Especially if you've never played consoles
or with a gamepad before...at first you'll be EXTREMELY unco-
ordinated, but eventually you'll get the hang of it...practice
practice practice!
