Do I need to buy a memory card?

Some package deals do include them, but they don't normally come as
standard in the box.

Any shop that stocks Gamecubes, the games and accesories should sell
them. The official ones are a tad more expensive, but there are plenty
of decent third-party ones out there.

The two third-party ones I got with my bundle have never gone wrong
anyway, so I'm either extremely lucky or these really are well made
cards.

I don't mean to criticize you or anything when ever you buy a new
console you should really check to see if it needs a memory card or
not. Anyway you can buy a GC memory almost anywhere that sells
videogames. Also, if I may offer some advice when your playing
REmake(I'm assumming this is your first time playing this game) , don't
rush it enjoy it as much as you can cause like a movie you can only
experience game for the first time once.
