Just scanned Sid Meier's cover interview. He mentioned games starting
to approach the complexity of "Falcon 7"--"If you haven't mastered the
first six versions, you'll never be able to play this", or something
like that. And so flight sim are a niche genre, and the niche is
shrinking fast.
He's right. The standard now is so hard-core that the learning curve is
a vertical line. I saw a CD for ATF in a resale store the other
day--ah, the days when all you needed was a four button stick, and all
planes had a GIB to drop hints. If they don't produce an ATF '07, maybe
for the PS, the next Falcon will be download only.

True, so the obvious solution is better training material integrated into
the sim. Microsoft has been steadily improving FS in that department with
every release.
