The difference between Shogun TW and MTW and RTW is that in the first one,
after a period of time, you knew which unit was the best and how to use it
in the battlefield. In MTW there are too many and too different units to
actually understand who is stronger, better and more suitable... and in RTW
everything is just a mess. But each game has its own advantages and
downfalls. Surely RTW has superior graphics by far. And a 3D map.

>I only decided to check out Rome: Total War after a previous post in here.

Well... yeah... I was interested to RTW after Phoenix mentioned it here.

If only there was a ww2 game like total war... lol

For me in BCOD was mission 6 with the airplanes and mission 3 with the
trainyard.
In BEL there were too many missions that I loved... including the pain in
the ass mission 8.

LOL... yeah... that's the spirit... just restart your engines and have a go
at it.
C3 is a really good game... you should already know.

Shogun was ok. It didn't hook me on to the series. Medieval was the
one I really started playing. But it had an annoying interface, and
various other issues, not to mention bad graphics.
And the pop up dialogs! My god! You had to click OK on each
information dialog it gave you every turn. In late game stages, there
used to be 20 dialogs I had to click through before I could begin my
next turn.
Rome TW changes all that and gives you a wonderful interface, not to
mention amazing graphics.

And contrary to what Iakovos says, after you play RTW a few times, you
know exactly what unit is best for what job and what the strengths of
each and every unit are. I've become so good at it that I can tell by
the name of the unit how it will do, but the stats of each unit give a
very good overall picture too.
And I agree, Medieval had too many units.

After you start playing RTW, you can even think about the expansion
pack, Barbarian Invasion. To tell you the truth, this one changes
quite a few gameplay mechanics and I'm not sure I really like it. But
its good and I do enjoy playing it.

Yeah, the one you refer to was Pyrotechnics. I still remember the name
because I remember that at that time I thought how the name of the
mission matched the name of the developer (Pyro).
I had fun with that mission. Although it took a few tries...

Well Phoenix, gonna find out cause I bought them both from Amazon. Medieval
was so cheap that if it is a write off, it won't hurt too much. Those pop up
dialogs though are probably what will kill if for me though. Shogun didn't
have that many in it, so I wonder why they thought it was needed in
Medieval.

A lot of times these game developers take a good game and make it worse by
trying to make it better....can't figure that one out. You would think the
beta testers, if they are in fact tested.....wouldn't pass it along or
something. Oh well.......will let you know what I think after I play a few
rounds.

Hi guys...new to this NG and picked the game back up after just playing BEL,
I downloaded Commandos 2 and
frankly hated the mechanics of the whole thing...totally different from BEL.
Was wondering if Comm 3 was more of
the same or if it is more like BEL?

BEL is the only version I've played and was wondering if BCD played similar
to it rather than the later versions? Any
mission expansions to either game. Thanks in advance.....

You are not in Japanese culture I see... not a samurai anyway :p

Medieval was a bit more complex than shogun... in Shogun there was a pure
element in strategy and resources and a purety in combat... Medieval also
applied diplomacy into another level.

Well... since I haven't played much... I guess the "know how" will come
with experience.

The expansion... it does not involve anything... Greek, right?

If you enjoy Medieval, there is also the expansion of it... Medieval Vikings
invasion...
but most importantly, there is an modification of the game (needing both the
game and the expansion), entitled Hellenic Total War.

Although RTW has superior graphics, HTW has more... a feel like home.. Smile)))

Which game do you mean here?

C2 was a total conversion and had better mechanics and graphics than CBEL
and CBTCOD.

>Was wondering if Comm 3 was more of the same or if it is more like BEL?

All 4 games (BEL, BCD, C2, C3) are similar in style and different in certain
areas. Even BCD, which is a follow up and a standalone game and not an
expansion, is a bit different than BEL.
>

As being released a bit of one and a half years after the original was out,
BCD is pretty close to the style of the BEL game.
I guess you'll enjoy it more than C2... since C2 has a variation of missions
with larger maps.

>Any mission expansions to either game. Thanks in advance.....

No expansions have been released to any game in the Commandos series. Only
some fan-made mods.

Cheers,
Iakovos:)

Tyvm for the info...I'll DL BCD instead of Comm 3 then, I just couldn't
stand Comm 2 it just
seemed like you (read as I) didn't have the same kind of control of my guys
and what were they thinking
with the "splash" effects when running and/or punching someone. : )

I'm hoping someone here gives a good detail review of the new Commandos game
set to release in Feb.

Actually, I love Japanese culture and think its really fascinating.
Thats one of the reasons I picked Shogun up. But it just wasn't the
game I thought it would be. Even though it was interesting and I
played it for some time, I eventually got really bored of it and moved
on.

RTW has more diplomacy in it than MTW, in fact, it has a lot of the
subtleties of diplomacy as well. Its so realistic that sometimes you
make a mistake in thinking its just a game.
But still, diplomacy is handled intelligently in it so its not
annoying and broken like it was in MTW.

Nope, nothing at all Greek. Greece is in the control of the Romans in
the campaign part of BI, I think.
