1-second freeze changing position in hellbender

When I change position in the hellbender (1-2-3) I get a
1-second freeze of the game before it continues.
Of course this is disastrous when in the middle of a
battle and trying to defend the bender.

I dropped all details to minimum and colour depth to 16
bit - no help.
