Gah.

Went on a Doom Lord Kazzak raid last night.

My box is an Intel Core Duo E6600. Or maybe a 6800, I forget. Not all
that important. My video card is a Geforce 8800GTX with 768 megs of RAM.
I've got 2 gigs of system RAM. This box runs Crysis acceptably. It runs
COD4 with all settings to maximum very well. In WoW, my framerate pushes
170fps.

Kazzak was my first 40-man raid on this box. As soon as he cuts loose
with his shadowbolt volley, my display converts to a slideshow. I hear
sound, I hear people talking on vent, but I'm looking at a static picture,
and then maybe 30 seconds later, another static picture. I can't even
tell if my keypresses are making it through.

Okay, turn all my WoW settings to minimum detail. Turn off all optional
graphics effects. Run it in full-screen mode. Makes no difference. Move
the camera around so that I'm only looking at a bare patch of rock while I
shoot him. Makes no difference.

My *old* box, an Athlon 64 3200+ with an AGP video card and a gig of RAM,
didn't do this in 40-man MC raids. Only thing I can think of is that the
oddons I'm running are doing something to completely gimp my framerate.

I'm thinking maybe it's SCTD, throwing ridiculous numbers up on my screen
no matter which way I'm facing. Or maybe Omen, what with it parsing a
combat log of 40 people all taking and delivering a shitload of damage.
Anyone else out there have any ideas?

Look to see if your scriptProfile is set to 1 in your Config.WTF file.

If so, change it to 0.

I have no problems with omen or any other addons while raiding...but my
advice would be to disable all addons and do a few av's(to replicate 40 man
problems) , re-enable a couple of addons each time until you figure out what
addon is causing the trouble.

Unfortunately, it won't do that, I have no problems in AV whatsoever.
That's why I'm so baffled. It wasn't the spell-effect graphics of 40
people casting at once, because the problem was still there even when I
directed the camera to point at a patch of dirt. The reason I'm asking
here is because replicating the original conditions is going to be so
difficult; no way I'm going to get a 40-man Kazzak raid together to
investigate a graphics problem.

Will do. What's that do?

Turns off CPU profiling of addons.

I turned it on once and murdered my framerate.

Hrm. I have no such parameter in my config.wtf. I've got a line that
says

SET scriptErrors "1"

but that's the only script-related line.

It defaults to off, so don't worry about it.

If you want to know more about it, you can read this:

There is a bottleneck in 2.3.0 involving UI queries about buff/debuffs,
that will be tuned up in 2.3.2. If you run mods that, say, display all
the buffs and debuffs for all the members of your party, it can soak up
a lot of CPU.

Mods like Grid and Detox, I'm guessing. Thanks for that, maybe this'll go
away by itself.

What's the chance that your computer started doing something else
(downloading a windows update or some other "automatic" feature) while
you were playing? This might have caused some problems...
