Not only does its interface reek, but it's also become such a huge source
of spam that I've killfiled the entire domain. When I see quotes from
actual people posting from there I manually add an exemption, but most of
what comes out of Google I no longer see.

It's not as bad in this group; most of my Googlegroups exemptions are in
alt.games.warcraft. But in some of the other groups I read, pretty much
everything from Google Groups is spam, and I'm not the only one filtering
them there.

Yah, new folks are a good thing, I agree. I just wish GG would at least
make new users default to being "subscribed" to news.announce.newusers,
like ISPs suggested back in the days of the 1200 baud modem when I joined
usenet.

These kids today, with their cable modems and their DSL... *shakes cane*
