I've been reading a lot online about GBA flash cards for loading the
game ROM's onto and then playing, but they are pretty expensive at 80%+
the cost of a Gameboy Advance SP. I'm wondering if the cards that
accept SD cards and claim to be used for movies, ebooks, pix, etc.,
will work to load ROMs onto? The card can be had for ~$25 on ebay and a
1GB SD card for around $20, seems to give more storage for a better
price, if it can work for game ROMs.

Anyone know the answer?

Thanks,

Ed

For the one I have (MovieAdvance), it works, but only with small roms (size
limit under 100k). Too limiting. The movie playback is only "okay" (GBA/DS
screen is too small). The music is okay too, because the converting to
their file type turns a 6 MB mp3, into 8 MB (but still sounds great on the
DS).

It does play ROM but it's limited in file size because the SD player
does not have internal RAM to hold the ROM and GBA RAM is too small to
hold larger game ROM.

My 4 year old PDA runs more ROMs and plays movies better than any GBA.

I have a Supercard SD and I have had NO luck with getting the damn thing to
do anything, so I am sending it back for a refund.

I have an ez2 powerstar (ezflash) and a cf gba movie player. The movie
player allows you to play nes, gb and gbc roms play converted movie/sound
files, read txt files and now html ebooks with e20 firmware release (though
I bricked mine in the last update and am in the process of making an xboo
cable to reflash its firmware. Though I have a gameboy micro so am having to
do a bit of conversion with regards to the pinouts.

The ezflash allows you to drop .gba files onto it only .gbm also if I recall
correctly. Though it says 512 meg this is megabit so 64 megabytes

What are you using the supercard with? Gameboy wise?

Ezflash was $5US $88AU delivered.
Gbamp was 30US
2gb CF card was $63

Cheers
Dom

I have the second edition GBA SP. (the one with the better backlight).
I have the latest firmware on the cart and am using the appropriate
converter. I have checked with the retailer and since I can't legally tell
them what I am really trying to use it for, I had little luck getting a
straight answer on how to get the little f**ker to work. I haven't been
able to get any type of file to load on it at all. I can only get a
whitescreen. I am using a 512 MB SD card.
