Pointless discussion of the day: what is your favorite capital city and why?

My first character was human, so of course Stormwind feels very
comfortable and familiar to me. It was a bit confusing at first, but now
getting around is mostly second nature (sometimes those canals still
confuse me though!).

Thunder Bluffs I was just dizzy and basically got lucky when I found
what I was looking for.

Darnassus is okay, but geez why is the mailbox so far from the AH? Ok,
at least compared to SW and IF it is! Smile

Ironforge...haven't played this as my "home" city yet, but been there
many times. It's nice but a little bit of a downer with all the darkness
and fire and industrialism.

Silvermoon City is very nice to look at. Confusing a bit, but again you
get used to it. I love the signposts that have the magic writing on them
that erases itself and then rewrites itself. Smile

Funny thing about SC is I spent the first few days running from the AH
to the mailbox on the other side of the nearest inn (kind of far, IMO).
I looked everywhere (I thought!) for a closer one, but didn't see it.
Then suddenly yesterday there is one on *this* side of the inn, near the
AH. Then again there is one literally right outside the entrance to the
AH (this has to be the closest one in the game, at least that I know
of). Then again yet *another* one on the other side of the area! I swear
it's like they just appeared yesterday! I didn't see them before! Smile

Anyway, my favorite is probably SW, but for the biased reason that I'm
so used to it.

Now it's your turn...

Iron Forge is just cool.

Stormwind is busy, bustly, and 'comfortable' (guess I must be Human).

Darnassus is quiet and aloof.

Thunder Bluff is also just cool.

Orgrimmar is rustic, rough, and slightly unsettling.

LC is just plain creepy.

Oh yeh... favorite? Hmm... toss-up between IF and SW; good thing they
are connected by a tram. Smile

I noticed this too. Darnassus can seem very deserted
while simultaneously Ironforge is overflowing with
people, so many that's it's just annoying to be there.

The run from the mailbox to auction house in Darnassus
isn't so bad. It's nearly a straight line, with no corridors
to navigate or walls to block your way. I can easily find
my away around there with little trouble.

I like Orgrimar the least, probably because it always
feels like I'm running endlessly to get anyway.

I love Shattrath. Like Booty Bay, there's a method to its madness.
However its scale can be intimidating. After living there for a while
you will probably get used to it.

Alliance: Ironforge. Easy to move around, looks gorgeous.
Horde: Orgrimmar. Mostly easy to move around.

I hate Stormwind. Too many tight turns, hard to get around. It looks
nice, but it is a big mess. If all you need is bank, AH, inn and flight
path, it is ok, but that usually isn't enough.

> Thunder Bluffs I was just dizzy and basically got lucky when I found

Thunder Bluff is a bit confusing, but when you learn it, it is quite
nice. However, when you get a mount, you can't move everywhere with
it, because you'll dismount in the stairs.

When my first char was a young lvl ~13 troll hunter, he entered
Undercity for the first time. I must admit I was almost scared.
Fortunately those massive undead guards weren't hostile. Smile I
have lost that feeling though. Now it looks like just another city
to me. The stairs around the bank look silly to me.

Darnassus is too big. It is quite far from many places too.

In my opinion Ironforge is the best looking city in WoW. Smile The music
suits perfectly too.

I visited Silvermoon city today for the first time. It looked very
nice, although it was hard to move around. There were many twisted turns
and I know the only reason for them is to make it easier for the video
card (less details visible).

I haven't seen the capital city of draenei yet.

I like SW the most, mostly because I know where everything is there. IF was
my home city for a long time, but I found that the majority of the time, I
only hung around the AH/Bank/Inn area.

Once you get used to The Exodar, it's actually laid out really well, and
easy to get around. It feels bigger than it really is.. Too bad it isn't
central enough to be worth a damn.

IF is popular, MOSTLY because it was the only place where there was an AH
for a long time.. now, people are just used to it. However, it is also
pretty central to the continent, and a quick flight to Menethil away from
the other continent. So, it still has appeal.. but since SW opened up the
AH, I have noticed a LOT more people calling it home.

For the Alliance side, I like Stormwind the best. It is nice, open, although a
couple of runs are annoying (running to the dwarven quarter, for example).
Ironforge just brings back memories of lag and falling into the stupid pit
between AH and the inn because you can't tell if you are moving or not due to
lag Sad Darnassus was just this huge empty city...NEs like to live in the big
cities, it seems. I haven't actually played an Alliance character in over a
year, so lag might have eased up in IF since they opened multiple AHs.

For the Horde, UC is the best because of the circular layout, although the run
to the throne room could be a bit shorter. Ogrimmar is nice, and Thunder Bluff
is a bit disorienting at the beginning, but after a while it makes sense. I'm
still getting used to Silvermoon, but I like what I see so far, although the U
shaped design is a bit annoying.

I had no idea what was in store the first time I walked into Ironforge,
and when I realized what it was my reaction was "WOW".

It's something like Moria must have been like in it's prime, alive and
full of people and life.

And it has a museum and a subway!

Just too cool.

Heck, they should just mail us money automatically
based on our level, saving us the time to go to the
auction house Smile

For leveling up a smith, TB is best for Horde. Trainer, mailbox, & AH
all within a few steps of each other. Org is a pain WRT leveling a
smith, since the three key points are widely separated.

For appearance, TB is also my favourite.

Personally, I think the mailbox should be IN the AH. In all of the
cities. Even better would be to just hand the stuff over at the frikin'
counter if you get something on a buyout.

I think UC gets negative points for all the times I have fallen in the
green slime while traversing the central stairs.
