"The Rats Cat House" is up and running.... I can leave work at 2pm CDT and have
the server ready at 3pm CST or 9pm UK time....... Don't wimp out on me... Three
Rats maps and three maps of choice.....

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who,
against all logic and common sense, believe that a violent predator who ignores
the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and
killing people will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

heh, your sig is SO true! All gun control means (this is just MY opinion) is
that innocent people have no defense, the whackos, loonies and assorted
other arseholes are still fully armed. And if you do arm yourself for
protection, you get called criminal

In countries where there is gun control, there are significantly less gun
related crimes and accidents.

People kill people Jahwe guns don't kill people that's why I believe
that every citizen should have the right to bear thermo-nuclear weapons.
Can you imagine what would happen if Iran invaded?

Obviously you have to have some controls in place, can't have any old
nutter being in charge of the destruction of the plant can we, so I
would suggest a form with some simple questions:

Are you a whacko, loony, liberal or have you every appeared on a reality
TV show?

Have you every tried to overthrow the government of another state by the
use of force - not including those owned by those nasty A-rabs?

Would you describe you favourite music as a bit of good old Dolly Parton
or that low down son-of-a-bitch Snoopy Dog or what ever he calls himself
these days?

Since this all go derailed again and its been ages since i had a chance to
argue
with CF...

Wouldnt trust my neighbours with a gun. Dont want to be shot going into my
garden
cause they think there's an intruder. Wouldnt trust *myself* with a gun
either.

None of us are totally 100% sane and 100% innocent and none of us can be
trusted
to be reasonable when angry or frightened. Thats why they train cops and
soldiers
and even those sometimes blow a fuse or make mistakes Sad

If only normal people got the training in reasonable use of weapons!
But no, you do get innocent people getting road rage and shooting other
people
with their "defensive" gun. Or shooting some kid for poaching apples,
hardly
a capital offense!

And usually, once someone pulls a gun the situation rarely improves. It
does
not calm down things (only in films!) it does send the "nothing to lose
now"
signal and things usually get out of control quickly.

Do I think guns should be illegal? no. Do i think there should be some sort
of permit that is harder to get than a drivers license? yes. Innocent
people
can be asked to get training and a license that seems fair.

Definitively wouldnt trust myself with a gun at home.

In the US you can buy a handgun after an FBI check which includes all local law
enforcement agencies but must be kept at home or transported in the trunk of
your car unloaded... To get a Concealed Weapon Licence is much more difficult
even in Texas.... It takes three months during which time you must attend a 10
hour CWL class... Before taking the class you must demonstrate your knowledge
and ability in gun safety... The class is primarily on Texas law involving use
of Deadly force which is legal here to protect yourself and others against
bodily harm and to protect your property... It also teaches you to defuse
situations before deadly force becomes necessary.... A written test is given in
which you must score 100% and a marksmanship test firing 50 rounds at a man
sized target at different distances... I have carried a gun for 30 years and
have never pulled it out of my pocket and would only do so to protect my or
someone elses life.... I have insurance for my property so, in my opinion, there
is no reason for deadly force to protect it....... Oh, the licence is only good
for four years and must be renewed with the same class as getting a new one... I
just renewed mine last saturday....

And the US has a substantially lower population density than pretty much
anywhere in Europe (even lower than Ireland!) so it's substantially
harder for the government to afford sufficient protection to all
property, hence allowing the use of deadly force and providing the tools
for it.

same here. Well trained in using the weapon & how to avoid using it for as
long as possible Smile It's the blackmarket users that are the worry - the ones
laws have no effect on. No training & usually no brain either.

Agree about the property thing, too - property can be replaced. Lives cant.
But out-right banning guns just puts them in the wrong hands.
