Does anyoine recall where the stats and rules for spider familiars
are located? I was sure it was in Dragon but can't seem to find it...

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which
the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn
our military victory in Iraq into a second Vietnam quagmire. Too bad
for them, it's failing.

I don't have the books dealing with The Underdark, but that would seem
a logical place to check. Spiders are popular with the Drow. The
Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book has an Improved Familiar feat,
and while THAT didn't list spiders it did refer people to the Monsters
of Faerun book for some of them. So the existence of a similar feat
in The Underdark (perhaps with another reference to the Monsters of
Faerun) would certainly be a possibility. Or you can just take the
general rules for familiars in the PH and apply them to the spiders in
the regular Monster Manual (back in the Vermin section) for something
of the appropriate HD.

d20 Dweomercraft: Familiars by Dark Quest Games. Copyright 2003.
pp. 83-86 Includes an article "The care and feeding of spider familiars"
Another of my favorite d20 books written in part by Steve Creech.
I never did like the 'limited' list of familiars provided in just about any
edition of the core rules, it's an element of the game that has been sadly
overlooked (With the exception of this fine Dark Quest games Book)
over the years.

Back in the days of 2E, I had *every* familiar be unique. We had a
skeletal cat, a creature with wings, a naga like body and four arms and
a living tattoo of a snake. This would be harder to do under 3.5. But it
would be interesting.

Troll Lord Games has _The Book of Familiars_. It goes over all sorts of
different 'familiars' (animal companions, mounts, item familiars,
signature items, etc.) for all classes. There are 'customization
options' for familiars as well.

Struck me as good stuff, if you want to have and develop a familiar.
