I've found that my ability to play has been greatly aided
by some of the external WoW related sites, and by this
newsgroup. I'm curious what others use.

I mainly use:

wowhead - the comments sections for quests is invaluable.
wowwiki - semi? official, more for reference. Good strategy guides.
mapwow - finding resources, checking for routes.
thottbot - similar to wowhead, don't use it as much.
Allakhazam - mainly for item pricing.
a.g.w - more strategy discussion.

My most valued addons while questing are map coords
and an addon which links the wowhead comments directly
to the quest.

While crafting, Auctioneer and Enchantrix.

I found that thottbot works really well for me....also check out your
manual that you got with the software it has some good maps and
explanations of quests.

hope that helps

Lightheaded and it's great. There is one that works with it called
TomTom as well that allows you to click on the Coords in the wowhead
notes and it places a spot on your map and the direction you need to
go and the distance to it as well.

I love using this combo when I'm leveling alts. I usually shut it off
on my 70 though as I enjoy finding all the stuff on my own for the
first time.

That's my main resource too, used to use allakhazam more but I like the
wowhead layout and the comments are very informative there.

>wowwiki - semi? official, more for reference. Good strategy guides.

Excellent for threorycrafting information, also handy when I want to know
some lore details.

>mapwow - finding resources, checking for routes.

Great for checking ore/herb spawnpoints, I don't use it for a lot else but
the google earth interface is brilliant.

>a.g.w - more strategy discussion.

Best information anywhere, I love this group - learned tons and tons of
useful things here, and being able to talk about different ways of doing
things teaches me even more.

Also:

Worldofraids - good info on what's coming up in future patches etc

Wowinsider - more information, plus trivia and general interesting stuff,
some articles are great but others are. I'm really enjoying the RL cooking
recipes for WoW food items for example.

>My most valued addons while questing are map coords

Map coordinates, scrolling combat text, Sellfish (puts item vendor value
into tooltips), equipcompare (better than the Blizz version)

>While crafting, Auctioneer and Enchantrix.

Tradeskillinfo for me.

While grouping: Grid, PartyDamage, Deadly Boss Mods for raiding.

Those are for all classes, there's other class specific ones too.

I used the MazzleUI for a while and liked it quite a bit.
Unfortunately there was a period where updates and support was
essentially non-existent and I dropped it. Hopefully that has changed
recently. At any rate, I ended up installing and maintaining my own
add-ons group that gives me much of the same functionality as MazzleUI
without depending on others to bring the add-on package
together....not quite as pretty, but a little lighter memory load....

One of the most useful sites I have found for rogues is www.shadowpanther.net
with tons of info on what gear to seek out and where to get it. It has
a very nice comparison chart of rogue gear and rates it according to
how much it benefits rogues specifically. No more wondering if that
nice leather thing you just looted is better than what you have
now.....

Speaking of crafting addons check these out:

TradeJunkie:
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7143-TradeJunkie.html
Can open a window with missing recipes and where to find them.

Fizzwidget ReagentCost:
http://fizzwidget.com/reagentcost/
Tell you the price to craft an item (using Auctioneer data) and can
generate a report of your most profitable recipes.

I think it was Lewis <gkreme RemoveThis @gmail.com> that wrote something like...

I use wowhead if I'm looking up something in particular, or browsing
items. I like thottbot a *lot* more for checking on class skills as
it shows em all on a single page. And to find out the various things
you can learn at a particular profession level I like thottbot a bit
better, though since I'm usually already at wowhead, I might use it.

Generally use Allakhazam, thottbot and wowhead when not playing for
research and stuff. I play in full screen mode (see below) so jumping
between windows is a pain in the arse.
>
> My most valued addons while questing are map coords

I've been using a compilation interface since about October last year
and now couldn't live without it.

MazzleUI changes everything about the user interface, adds a HUD style
combat thing in the middle when in combat and uses a *lot* of addons,
most of which are included in the list above. You can find it at

http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info6311-MazzleUI.html

Some of the more notable addons that this compliation use are
lightheaded, cartographer, discord unit frames, tom tom, fubar and
associated addons, bongos, tiny tip, aloft, decursive, item rack,
n-quest, autobar and a lot of others. Most of the addons are based on
the Ace2 framework, though some are stand alone.

Others that I have added to this are auctioneer advanced, enchantrix,
gatherer, ATSW (a craft mod that allows you to queue things and then
make them), spammenot, character info.

The whole interface has become a little tricky to install with a couple
of patch files that have happened since 2.3 was introduced.

I honestly couldn't play without this anymore as the information that
it has given me is huge. For a quick look at my screenshots, try
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2000309&l=44da4&id=1095784264 and
check out some of the screen shots from there. A lot of these are from
topscore which saves a screen shot when you beat an old previous high
score.

The support is improving. There were a lot of pissed off people when
2.3 came out, but some core users have taken over the development. It
will be interesting when 2.4 arrives.

I'm using those too, but added to that:
http://elitistjerks.com/
- The forums on Elitist Jerks have the most in-depth theorycrafting
about classes that I've found. And the level of discussion is
a lot better than on the official WoW forums. Smile

http://www.lootrank.com/
- Comparing different gear and searching for upgrades. I formerly
used lootzor.com, but it didn't handle epic gems that well and
didn't include spellhaste on possible item weights. In a nutshell
you can give different weights to different attributes and
it gives you a list of equipment that meets your criteria
and tells you how good they are for you. The site handles
gem slots and their possible bonuses pretty intelligently too.

For general raid purposes:
http://www.bosskillers.com/
- This site has a collection of in-depth tactics for every boss
in the game. Usually there are also links to videos on those
boss kills.

(Most of these can be found linked from:
http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t17722-quick_links_prominent_class_threads/ )
but to mention few, for warlocks:
http://www.leulier.com an accurate dps spreadsheet and a theoretical
model to estimate raids' ISB uptime

And for druids:
http://druid.wikispaces.com/ -Druid wiki has a lot of general
info on different aspects of druidning, and for my feral one
especially Emmeralds gear lists for druids: http://www.emmerald.net/
(Mind you, you can get those with correct valuations by using
www.lootrank.com too, but the lists are good estimates.)
