In an alliance, do players exchange RST files a lot? What are the pros
and cons and any other thoughts on the subject of alliances. I would
like to know what others think. Smile

WE exchange RSTs, mostly for Info purposes bit sometimes if one of us is
busy, he needs his team buddy to play for him

Even with PHost alliance settings there is still lots of information
you don't get about an ally's ships and planets. I will only share RSTs
with an ally I trust completely - i.e. a game which is specifically set
up as a "team" game, rather than a game in which I make an alliance for
diplomatic purposes. No matter how strong you think the alliance is, it
might break if it's not a team game.

formerly I played on a host that allowed the exchange of rsts with other
players implemented on the hostside - e.g. you told the host to send
your rst also to your ally. In that case, I exchanged rsts with my ally.

Nowadays my current host does not offer that. But now I also play mostly
phost than thost. With the alliance settings there, I think it is not
necessary as I get all information a rst could give to me. If I form an
alliance that is more than a NAP (a combat and possibly a minefield
alliance), the exchange of information is vital - knowledge of your
ally's empire helps to co-ordinate.

Ingo
