My rogue is my main and my leatherworker. I acquired the recipes for
the Stormshroud set as he needed them, and I was quite satisfied with
it.

My hunter is about to level up into that range, is there a set of
crafted mail armor that is especially good for hunters in the 50-57
level range?

My hunter is a leatherworker and she crafted the Black Dragonscale
pieces which were very good. The problem now is that they are too
difficult to get and when you get to Outlands you'll replace them very
quickly. They all need a lot of Black Dragonscales, one is a bought
recipe from BRD which isn't always sold and one of the pieces (the
boots I think) needs Thorium Brotherhood rep to buy the recipe which
requires drops from MC to craft.

That kinda sucks. BC made Stormshroud armor pieces cheap and easy to
craft.

Then maybe they did it for the black dragonscale stuff too? I'm just
recalling what I did with my hunter before TBC came out.

Yeah, but why oh why dont the felscale armor pieces have stamina
bonuses? (other than the meager by Outland standards set bonus)

I wish this first drop had been a bracers one. I still had Ironoya's
bracers from Uldaman at level...62-63, I think Smile

There is a mail set you can learn in outland that start with a level 57
piece. Too bad the last piece is at level 66.

It may be the felscales set, not sure of the name in english:

Gloves
Level : 57
Armor : 276
+19 Agility
+40 attack power

Pants
Level 63
Armor : 449
+31 Agility
+60 attack power

Boots
Level 61
Armor : 333
+20 Agility
+44 attack power

Torso
Level 66
Armor : 558
+30 Agility
+72 attack power

Bonus:
2 pieces : +15 critical strike
4 pieces : +20 stamina

Total : 100 Agility, 210 attack power

I aggree. Two possible explanations:

It's a hunter set (mail, agility, attack power), so the pet *should* take
the damage, not the hunter. In a perfect world (of warcraft), at least.

This set is crafted with leatherworking, and the first "armor patch" from
the Outlands give +8 stamina. If you put the four (hands, torso, legs and
foot) it's 32 stamina. It's not relevant since you can put these patch on
armor with stamina, but you can at least have some stamina by these way.
