How to enter cheat codes in a gameboy?

Hi all

I've just dusted off my very old Gameboy and it still works
Can anyone please tell me how to enter cheat codes in a gameboy? There are
only two purple buttons: A & B, two grey buttons: start & select and one
black cross shaped button. How does one enter codes like 003-99D-3BE with
that???

You need an Action Replay, Game Genie, or Game Shark device, depending on
which one the specific code was designed for.
