About two months ago my daughter asked that I stop fooling around and level
my (then 29) priest so I could join her (then 44) paladin.
It has been a long rough tiring and disappointing road.
I was used to playing my alts.. taking turns 'in blue' (double xp). Now I am
focusing on ONE char, and I am getting frustrated doing so. Pauses in
leveling (at 29 and at 39) helped me with my PvP fix, but each time I skip
the grind I end up further and further behind.
Last time I was able to play (Saturday) I had just turned level 44. I was
invited to Uldaman (an instance my level) with a PUG all within my level.
Even with my resting xp... 3 hours gained me half of a level. Assuming I
play more regularly, with less resting xp, and assuming levels take longer
as I go on, am I looking at 50 hours more playing time until 50? And how
much longer until I can do raids and such with my guild?
I am out of ideas for leveling or for making the game fun again. >> Stay informed about: I need encouragement.. and levelling advice |

Tanaris?
At 43/44 I felt somewhat stuck, then I opened all the Tanaris quests.
I believe there are easily 5-10 plus another 3-6 for ZF. As a priest,
you should have less problems getting groups if you are a little behind
than my hunter did/does.
Also, go to Feralas and jump off the Colossus, after you buy a
parachute. The visual for that made my night when I did it. >> Stay informed about: I need encouragement.. and levelling advice |

You can do ZF at lv44 although it'll be tough ATM, after a couple
levels you'll do just fine and still get a good amount of XP from
there. Do tanaris quests while you wait for ZF group. Once you feel ZF
is too low for you, you can move on to Maradon or ST. ST will give you
better XP while Mara has decent drops. >> Stay informed about: I need encouragement.. and levelling advice |

Thats about right Tanaris is next on your list. Do Tanaris. Kill alot of
stuff. Do Zul Farak instance about five times with pick up groups, Do Un
Goro Crater quests Kill alot of stuff. Do all your priest quests. Kill
alot of stuff. Kill Ogres over and over. You can Keep killing Gorillas and
raptors in southern Stranglethorn Vale, they are good to lvl with. Go to
Ratchet. Go to Hillsbrad, kill things.
The tougher "grind" is from 50-60. But its not as many hours as you think
or as it seems, but it does get more interesting at times.. I was a slow
more casual lvler compared to many others and I did lvl 60 in 60 days
/played.
In the lvl 50's getting to about lvl 54, you can start doing the instances
with groups, you'll be grinding in the Plaguelands, Western and Eastern,
Strathmore, Black Rock Mountain, Blackrock Spire, Scolomance,
The quests in Burning Steppes --starting with the LONG quest chain
"Dragonkin Menace" will eventually take you to the Drakefire Amulet so you
can get into killl Onyxia. In the mean time when you hit around 57-58 you
can get Attuned to Molten Core and then get attuned to Black Wing Lair.
Also in the later 50's you can start working on Silithus.
Then when you can get real active with your guild or get into a end game
guild and find out how crazy it all is---then you can have them put you on a
insane schedule that will turn your hair gray and you will want to strangle
all the little children who are ruining their lives and dropping out of
Junior High School because of their WOW addiction, but by then you will be
working on your Priest quests and being harrassed by constant Whispers about
"priest needed" so you can go there and be told "why arent you healing?"
But by then you will too strung out to stop. You will spend three months
doing Molten Core and Onyxia another six months doing Black Wing Lair and
Zul
Gurub, AQ. Then they will come in their little white coats and take you
away.
Good luck

You won't be doing anyone any favors if finally catch up to her, but
burn out in the process. Take your time. I'm sure she would prefer
an enthusiastic but late playing partner over one who is high level
but hates playing.

There's more than that even. Tanaris can keep you busy for a half-dozen
levels or more.

Almost as fun as not quite figuring out how the parachute worked in time... *

ZF isn't really doable until 46 or so. And you need a lot of DPS because of
the self-healing trolls. *

Nearly as fun as getting to the top, finding out theres no way down except
buying a parachute, then think of using levivtate and slowly finding
yourself drifting into an area filled with elite dragonkin and eventually
dying. >> Stay informed about: I need encouragement.. and levelling advice |

I can say the exact opposite - I do look at my bar in instances, and I'm
always happy at how fast it moves up, especially in rest time.

That may well be true. Since I tend to be bored silly when not in
instances except when doing a fun quest string (the pre-onyxia ones are
often hilarious), that may be why I think instances are faster. I never
grind except when very close to a level barrier - 3 bars or less. *

Agreed. Objectively, grinding is faster. Subjectively, instancing
probably is. Also, a character who grinds to 60 to maximize speed will
certainly have greatly inferior gear when he gets there to one who ran
every instance multiple times to squeeze out all the good drops.
Also, since if I read correctly, the OP is playing a priest, it's most
definitely a good idea to spend plenty of time grouped, to build up your
own personal skill at healing a party. Healing classes have the greatest
difference in playstyle between solo and grouped.
Cheers!

Well at 56 in Scholo/LBRS I was getting <100 exp per kill, +17 rest and
-17 for raid. In Winterspring/Plaguelands I'm getting >300 exp plus
another 300 rest. No contests.
Might not have the blues other do but I'm having just as much fun,
more so in my books since I find instances too slow most of the time. >> Stay informed about: I need encouragement.. and levelling advice |
