I'm just about to give up camping for Broken Tooth. 1.0 attack speed
will be nice to have in my stable before I level too far past him (I'm
41, he's 37) but after 5 visits to the Badlands, and camping the foot
of the Angor Fortess I think its just not worth the wait.

Between petopia (out of date) and Good intentions, I've come up with a
nice list of easy-to-capture, fast attack speed non-elites (or quickly
spawning elites).

Cats:
1.2 Swamp Jaguar level 36/37 -- Swamp of Sorrows
1.2 Needles Cougar level 27/28 -- Thousand Needles
1.2 Starving Mountain Lion level 20/24 -- Alterac Mountains, Hillsbrad
Foothills
1.2 Feral Mountain Lion level 27/28 -- Hillsbrad Foothills

All of these beat the named tigers in STV, and are only trumped by
Broken Tooth (L37) and a bat in Zul'Grub. I'll probably dump my L40
Elder Tigress and pick up a Swamp Jaguar tonight for the extra .1
attack speed before levelling becomes a chore.

Wolves:
1.2 Slavering Worg level 18/26 -- Shadowfang Keep
1.3 Mist Howler level 22 -- Ashenvale
1.3 Ghostpaw Alpha level 27/28 -- Ashenvale, Felwood

Faster or equal to most cats, with higher armour but slightly less DPS.
Sadly they're all very low level, encouraging hunters to level them
from very early on. Aside from the unique Deathmaw @ L53, there's no
fast wolves at high levels.

Here's my question: under what circumstances would a SLOW attack speed
pet be advantagenous? Does the slow attack speed allow for mana
conservation, is this the objective? I'm in PvE levelling mode, so I've
got growl as the first skill 99% of the time and its working great...

Look at it like that.

You want fast attack speed if:
_you're going for PVP, for better interrupts on casters

_you're going for BM spec, for reliably sustained frenzy and faster
casting intimidation.

You want slow attack speed if:
_you're going for PVP, for higher damage burst when shooting a trapped
enemy

_you're going very heavily for BM spec and invest in both frenzy and
bestial discipline, and give your pet the Claw skill to proc frenzy. No
use getting a slow attack speed without at least rank 1 claw, then,
you'd just be wasting talents.

_you want to use the pet trinket that gives 100% crit on next pet
attack.

_it's much easier to have a good crit streak on a slow attack speed
pet... Assuming your pet hits for 100 at 2.0s, or 50 at 1.0s, he scores
3 consecutive crits, he will deal 600 damage over 6 seconds with a slow
attack speed. He'll need to score 6 consecutive crits to reach that
damage/threat over the same time if he's got a fast attack speed, and
that is rather unlikely to happen.

Slow attack speed is better for aggro and mana management. If your pet
doesn't crit, simply wait for it to deliver one, then go all out. With
a fast pet, crits are drowned in the mass, so you kind of have a set,
constant dps limit.

So I'm not a BM spec but working towards a ranged mastery spec
(trueshot aura)...i've got animal talents invested in life and armour
talent boosts but will not get to frenzy.

What i think i'm reading though suggests DPS over time doesn't vary
much between the two types of animals -- its just about role/function.
Crits for slow attack animals (higher damage thresholds = more aggro)
vs interrupts for fast animals.

A fast 1.0 cat then really isn't all that great, unless I'm PVPing in
BGs. I should go back to my wolf as he'll be better able to hold aggro
in PvE and raids.

.... and the flip side of that is it's also much easier to have a bad
non-crit streak, for exactly the same reason.

Which is *exactly* the same as the DPS limit over time you get from waiting
for a crit and then going for it. Aggro doesn't care what size lumps the
damage comes in, only the total aggregate damage over the fight so far.

Sure, the slow, crit-streaky pet will let you nuke harder if it happens to
get a couple of crits in earlier. It'll also screw you over if it happens
*not* to get early crits, whereas the faster attack speed pet will be much
more likely to get at least one in the early part of the fight.

If you like unpredictablility, and relish reacting to what your pet happens
to pull out of the hat, then go for a slow pet. If you want predictability,
get a fast one.

Brumeran - Elite or not? - I was playing my lock the other day and I came across Brumeran. I had the quest to kill it but it was still elite and I died, although I read in some posts that it had been nerfed to non-elite. As it is, I have abandoned the quest thinking I could get it...

pets - Does anyone know if a mage can have a tiger pet that attacks? Or can only hunters have them. If I can have one, where can I get it in the Alliance game? Thanks

Combat pets - Short of switching to engineering as a profession, is there a renewable source of combat pets like the greench and mechanical yeti?

PVP and a pets role in DPS. - Does anyone know if there is a list of pets (lev 60) and there average dps and peak dps with crits, if this list also had the hunters build that would be very useful (was it a BM build basically). Trying to work out if it is worth investing points in..

Non-Hunter Pets - Quick question: Can you have more than one toy pet (i.e. Cockroaches from UC, parrots from BB, etc)? I've always thought that these things look pretty cool and they don't seem to be too popular on my server. --- Rotbleed: Lvl 41, Undead Rogue @..
