Quick question.

Does WoW take advantage of having dual processors, or do it just run in
one thread on a single processor?

I don't have dual processor but do use a P4 with HT and notice improved
performance (ie can run other apps with WoW minimised with no probs)

but don't know about WoW using multiple threads. I would imagine (and
hope) that it would utilise the dual processor.

Only one way to find out, install and give it a go. and see what happens

It is multithreaded (that should be obvious when you play), but it only uses a
single CPU (or one core in a multicore processor or one virtual processor in a
hyperthreaded CPU).

Pretty sure its single threaded, never uses my second core anyway.

My laptop came with XP ME, and it asked if I needed to log into a domain.
However, I use my laptop for work, so I promptly wiped the drive and put XP
Pro on there (yes, it is licensed as an upgrade).

Indeed. I think it has more to do with the management ability of the machine,
and perhaps the bundled software (IIS perhaps?).

Only one problem with that suggestion, I don't have a dual processor pc
yet, hence the question Wink

I have an X2 4200 and one thing I noticed is the FPS is capped (ctrl-R)
with a dual core processor. I'm running a GeForce 6600 graphics card right
now, and while ctrl-R is consistently 30fps, the graphics are truly awesome
with my computer.

800 MHz is 80% of 1000 MHz, just to be picky. Probably half the price,
though.

Left for the management that interferes with the work of the Lead
Designer team of MS' kernel software of course Smile Everybody that plays
World of Warcraft and enjoys it is using both of course!

Hmmm... I still don't really know the answer as to whether i should go
dual processor though Smile

To be specific, I currently have a 3.4GHz P4 Pentium and 6600GT graphics
card. I can get hold of an Opteron 244 1.8GHz dual processor 64bit
machine and salvage the 6600GT card out of the other machine.

Would this be better for WoW? The performance in single processor mode
is much the same between the two machines, I believe.

You might regret not having a dual core if you buy Windows Vista next year.

So the 6600GT is PCI Express? It would be a big mistake to buy a AGP
motherboard these days.

The box says 1GHz5 is recommended, but the game should also run with 800
MHz (half of that). I don't think your Dual Core processor would be a
limiting factor.

The problem might however be the socket. Since your Opteron is 940 and
939 seems more common these days. Plus 940 seems mega expensive. Get a
Athlon 64 X2 3800 instead Smile

Can I get that for free too? Wink I'm stuck with my two options unless I
want to spend money.
