It would give you the ability to have "physics" puzzles such as exist in
Half-Life 2. I thought they could have done a lot more with it in HL2;
the ones that were included were pretty light-weight.

LOL! I guess Mary or her kids weren't in the generation that used that
expression. It just seems to fit with the language used in the game
although I'm not sure if it was actually used in the game. Reminds me
of the British game that used the word "poxy" all the time. I had to
look it up to see if it meant something good or something bad. >> Stay informed about: Why doesnt anyone make a first person adventure game? |

Why should he not have said that? Maybe you could explain how you could
have a graphic adventure with a first-person viewpoint, but WITHOUT 3D,
because as far as I can see that would be impossible. >> Stay informed about: Why doesnt anyone make a first person adventure game? |

It think it was fairly obvious right from the start of the thread that
the OP was talking about an adventure game using a 3D engine. To split
hairs about whether he should or shouldn't say certain things doesn't
get anyone anywhere. The view from a 3D engine such as Half-Life is
first-person, so he was right. >> Stay informed about: Why doesnt anyone make a first person adventure game? |

LOL. When was it they used the term "rad"? Maybe it was before or after
my time. Was it an an American slang word and we in Canada are a bit
more formal and maybe never used it here?.
Or maybe its just teenagers use it here. I have two teenage
granddaughters, but haven't heard them say "rad".

in movies -LOL

Why would that be impossible? I don't get it.
Let me put it like this. No reason whatsoever why node-based and
point&click 1st-person adventures couldn't have dialogues and
inventory-based puzzles. (As opposed to the Mystian 1st-person games
with lonely exploration and different types of puzzles.) So obviously
plenty of adventures fit the bill.
For some people adding real-time 3D is more immersive. Real-time 3D
has nothing to do with inventory and dialogues. If 3D is *crucial* for
PaulyB (but that's not what I got from his posts), you are right:
there are only a few non-Mystian 1st-person adventures to choose from.
Someone else already mentioned the old Tex Murphy games. >> Stay informed about: Why doesnt anyone make a first person adventure game? |

Oh, that kind of "pox". Yes, I had it and they did too. At least my two
daughters did, but I don't remember my son getting it. Hmmm. I'll have
to ask him -LOL

Remember the film Fast Times at Ridgemont High with a very young Sean
Penn as a strung out surfer dude type? That was 1982 and about the time
that the surfer dude/valley girl slang became widespread due to that
movie and others like it and the hit song Valley Girl. You might
remember hearing "totally tubular" or "gag me with a spoon."

They're way too young, but they may have heard of it. Kids still use
short forms of words like "fab" for "fabulous."

I think Cam has it right. "Poxy" is probably from having chicken pox
like "lousy" is from having lice. The character in the game kept
finding insignificant things and calling them "poxy" or "twiddly" such
as: "It's only a poxy stone" or "It's just a twiddly little key." >> Stay informed about: Why doesnt anyone make a first person adventure game? |

You are going to be disappointed but I never saw that movie, so can't
comment.

I've heard of "fab" but its not a word often used here or in the past,
or maybe my circle is incredidibly out of touch -LOL

You're much more up to date on slang and Ridgemount High. LOL
This is an adventure game NG. We should keep on topic here. A newcomer
to the NG is annoyed. Guess he's never heard of "plonking" threads or
people- now *that"s* a slang word I like -LOL

What??? We're talking about the slang used in adventure games here!
Normality used that surfer dude type of lingo, and the Valhalla games
used "poxy" in them. Who's annoyed? Probably one of the same people
who bitch when no one is posting here! >> Stay informed about: Why doesnt anyone make a first person adventure game? |
