Oops -- sorry, must have dozed off there.
Hi: I am the last of the keepers of the csipgs-s FAQ. According to section
71.b (revision c.3) of the FAQ, we are not allowed to discuss D*r*k Sm*rt
simulations here. Please submit your query (in triplicate) to any public
utility office or post office for prompt processing.

Hmm - can't help wondering what a D*r*k Sm*rt simulations would look
like. A random word generator from a dictionary of profanities?

Almost none, to be honest. Originally Universal Combat was to be called
BC NG or something fancy like that. Then the publisher, in a rare case
of
convincing DS to do something instead of the other way around, got DS
to agree to the name change to "Universal Combat", to emphasize the
variety of career the game allows. Instead of just a ship command, the
game allows for ground combat, vehicle combat, flyer combat, space
fighter combat, naval combat, AND starship combat. Thus, Universal
Combat. >> Stay informed about: What's the differences between Battlecruiser millenuim and.. |

You're correct. The amazing technical achievement though, worthy of a Ph.D.,
was hiding the word generator from the dictionary of profanities within an
Excel spreadsheet and applying a seamless graphical interface that contains
seams. >> Stay informed about: What's the differences between Battlecruiser millenuim and.. |

What on earth for? You're already got a lock on "Best in Class:
Cyber-Stalker". Are you trying for some kind of lifetime achievement award?
It still pains me that this groups is dead. We had some good laughs. I
still harbor fond memories of the "Derek Smart and Toadies vs. Detractors"
Unreal Tournament. Of course, the idea was actually better than the event
-- IIRC it was Lemming's idea and Derek Smart reluctantly agreed, but since
no actual Toadies could be found I volunteered to be a designated Toadie.
As it turned out, Derek Smart was a no-show and I didn't have the proper
maps installed, so the "Tournament" ended up being Brad Martin vs. Lemming
with me mercilessly pinging the server out of frustration. I think you'll
agree, this event was a fine distillation of much that was good about
c.s.i.p.g.s-s.

It's understandable that this group withered Bret, Usenet just lost
out to the browser gods, but it's a real shame we all got dispersed.
I'm now on various web forums, none of which have any of the spark and
general joy of space-sim. Of course we couldn't all argue the same old
stuff for ever but it seems a shame that all the old people (both
sides included) are still around in disparate locations yet we can't
pull us all together. I'm no web spurt so I wouldn't know how to begin
but there were certainly some amongst us who could set up a forum and
call in the old members.
Perhaps I'm just succumbing to nostalgia but even without the old
flamewar I'm sure we could find much to discuss, a group of crotchety,
miserable and downright clever bastards like the gang of old could
surely still produce good interaction in these interesting times.

Huh -- I still haunt Usenet and don't do web forums. I guess I'm just olde
fashioned.

Hey! I have an idea! Let's put on a show! My uncle has an old barn, you can
sew costumes, and ... uh ... wait. I guess the old Judy Garland/Mickey
Rooney schtick just won't work anymore. What the hell are you supposed to
do when you're too old to date Judy Garland and you grow up to become the
uncle with the old barn? Of course, I'm going to feel foolish if the answer
is "use web forums".

That sounds kewl, but I sure don't have the mad skillz to us get there.
Maybe we should just annex an existing group?

Speaking of Derek Smart, he's quite active right now in the Blues News
thread about the DRM scheme of Mass Effect and Spore. In the golden
days of flame-war, that kind of thread would have kept the woods
burning for about an year. It has everything. BC3K history, sales
numbers, security at Smart Estate and the dogs he own, PhD, calling
people pirates in one short statement then posting a 100 line essay
about what he actually meant...
I agree with most of what he is saying over there.

Yeah, every once in a while I take a look at what he's working on. What I'd
really like to see is an announcement that he's developing "Wii
Battlecrooz", a Wii port of BCM utilizing easily-remembered motion-controls
for each keyboard command. For example, if you wanted to switch to the
TacOps screen, instead of "Alt-S" you do the "Mashed Potato"; and to fire
lasers, instead of "Shift-Ctrl-Scroll Lock" you do the arm motions for the
Village People's "YMCA". I tell ya, it'd knock "Wii Fit" right off the
shelves.

Right. For old time's sake, then:

blue toed belly thumbers. (Sorry I don't seem to make much sense when I get
all sentimental.) >> Stay informed about: What's the differences between Battlecruiser millenuim and.. |
