Hi...new here...can someone tell me what the difference is between the
different GameCube systems, such as Platinum, Black, Special Edition,
Indigo, or whatever. I want to buy a used system and I'm wondering if
it has changed or been upgraded since it was introduced, and if so,
which ones are the older ones and which are the better ones. Or did
they just change the color of the box or the things bundled with it? I
want to buy one for my kids but i don't know what I'm looking at.
Thanks so much!

The various editions had the same hardware (with one exception
discussed below), but just had different colors and sometimes had
different games packed in.

The only real hardware change that Nintendo made was removing the
digital video out port - you used to be able to order a digital
component cable from Nintendo's website for 480p output but they
removed it due to not many people using it (of course that was because
the website was constantly out of stock)

If you care about 480p for some games, then you may want to track down
an older unit that has the port - otherwise, I would go for a new unit
(they are $99 new and you can often find a deal that bundles a game
with the system - not much more than a used system and will have full
warranty).

Hope that helps,

Vin

You can probably get the cable from Nintendo ordering by phone,
even though it's not anymore available on the website. Call cust.
service 800-255-3700. I ordered one from them a few days ago,
03/27, and it came in two days. $30 plus $5 ups shipping.

If you have an ED or HDTV, you'll be glad you got an old GC plus the
cable. Lots better picture.
