Thanks for the reply. I agree with you it is difficult to tell if someone
is really cheating, and often things can be explained from the lag. But
when I watch someone disappear into a hillside or walk through a wall
instead of going around, then to me that is cheating.
The connection speed makes all the difference as well ... thus the lag
issue. I have "improved" greatly since we were able to get DSL in this
area. Even turning off my firewall can sometimes make a difference. So I
know you are right on the lag issue.
Also, I know that that the size of the display and the quality -- like the
new large LCD displays are said to make a huge difference, and some players
I'm sure have an advantage there. I am still on a 17" flat-screen CRT.
And I have observed, too, that there are certain players that can't seem to
do well unless there is thick fog, and then they clean up. I have a Nvidia
card and have tried all kinds of adjustments to the settings, and I can
gain very little improvement -- but it does help a little. Especially on
the night-time stuff. I don't consider that cheatig, that's making the most
of your own equipment.
One of the things that really burns me, too, is shooting at someone far
away that may be running, and immediately -- without missing a step it
appears -- they turn and shoot and you're dead. That just doesn't seem
possible. How can someone locate where you are (especially if you are not
moving) and turn and fire all in the same motion. But certain players seem
to do it consistently.
Oh well, I guess it is just a game and one is to play for fun anyway. I
just like being on a level playing field when I get beat.
