Let's say you got $20-$40 to spend on one and only one GA aircraft (twin or
single) for FS9...

Of all the payware out there which one is THE most accurate as far as
flight model is concerned when compared with the real thing?

I have been a bit of a fan of Carenado. The Cessnas are good. Good
price too
http://www.carenado.com/ecommerce/navegacion.php3

Yes the Spitfire Oskar recommends is excellent but I have always felt
they are almost for 'messing around' in and not for serious flights.
I had it for FS9 but just used it mainly for doing loops, spins etc
and not for actual short IFR or VFR flight plans.

PMDG only provide commercial airline models like Boeing 737 and 747
and MD-11

Hang in there a bit longer. I'm working with a development team right
now on an F86 Sabre due to be released in about a month that will be
perhaps the most realistic military jet add on ever done for flight
simulator. The depth of fidelity, the graphics, and the flight model,
all done by the very best devs in the business will be unmatched in my
opinion.
And yes, this Sabre has a fully functioning IFR instrument and avionics
package second to none. The aircraft is fully IFR capable using period
instrumentation, complete with ILS capability, ADF capability, and a GPS
thrown in if you want it.
Keep your eye out on Simflight's main page, as I'll be reviewing this
masterpiece as soon as it's released to the community.

The one done by Kirk Olsen was a good one. I'd put this new F86 on a
whole new level of creative accomplishment.

Hmm, not sure about the price - but in my opinion RealAir SF260 or Spitfire.
Absolutely stunning ....

There's nothing wrong with the Carenado products, but if you're going
to spend your money on just one plane, get the RealAir SF.260. It does
everything except land on water: IFR, VFR, aerobatics. Easy on
framerates, realistic flight model, best gauges anywhere. Best price
for US buyers is probably through Flight1, which has the download
version for US$38.

And if you want to land on water then the Real Air Scout Package - it will
do both. Flight1 is a bit cheaper than Real Airs web site. called the
American Champion at Flight 1. It is here...
http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=amerchamp

I bought it about a month ago. Flying it ever since. Fly the amphibian
model so I'm now constructing a lake lot 20 minutes out of my home airport.

Doesn't this raise a basic question? I mean, how accurate can an FS9
flight model be in terms of modelling things like spin, stall recovery,
inverted flight etc..?

Likely will have to go to X-Plane for that type of realism. Version 9 just
released. But I am sticking with FS9 and FS10.
All Carenado planes are a good purchase in my opinion. As is the Twin Otter
from Aerosoft or their Beaver for FS9 and FS10.

Not necessarily. It's a common misinterpretation that FS 9 or X cannot cope
with uncommon flight manoeuvres such as spins, side-slips etc. Particularly
FSX shows a great improvement. Even the default Extra 300 side-slips quite
well. The eternal battle between FSX and XPlane 9 will go on - but be sure
of one important thing: flying on a PC is NEVER realistic Smile) I use both
FSX and XPlane 9 and the comparison - although the calculation method of the
aerodynamic model is clearly in favour of XPlane 9 - shows a large variety -
also on XPlane models. Using the proper calculation method is one thing -
using the proper parameters the other. Funny enough - large transports
behave quite strangely - kinda swampy - on XPlane although everyone states
that they are extremely realistic. I assume that most of the people that
give those statements have never flown a large transport....
