Hi all,

3 questions; sorry if a bit long.

Discovered that with some skills I can just press the "q" key & leave the
game running while I go to school, or work, or better yet-- just going to
bed...

Seems an easier way to get to "expert" in Athletics without the boredom of
endlessly running & swimming.

Problem with leaving game unattended is that it pauses when you reach
apprentice, journeyman, etc.

Can you disable these pop-up windows in the "Oblivion.ini" file or
somewhere? Checked over at wiki & didn't see anything.

Also, anyone know of faster way to build up "athletics" besides swimming?

Approx. *48 hours* (real time) & character is *still* only 76 for athletics!
: 0 !

Could literally take *days* then, & that seems sort of silly. How on earth
did the developers expect you to get to 100 by actually *playing* the game!
Might take months-- *years* even! : 0 !

Any tips / suggestions for acrobatics also greatly appreciated.

thx

Dude... couldnt you just type in the cheat code to get your athletics and/or
acrobatics up to the level you require it to be (100)? Id imagine it would
save you a whole heap of time, energy and not to mention a large electricity
bill.

Hit the ~ key and type player.setAV athletics 100

you can do this to other skills and even attributes:

player.setAV <Ability/attribute> <#>

So to me this is the most logical thing to do, it IS cheating, but what
you're doing is also 'cheating' in a way that you're not even really playing
the game and just letting it run. Im not sure how to turn of the popups, but
i hope my suggestion helps!

Also, you could look into enchanting an item to increase your athletics or
acrobatics... if you are playing as a mage then by now im sure you know that
you can get cheap fortify skill spells easily, very handy for acrobatics,
just cast fortify acrobatics 100 on self for 3 seconds, press jump and soon
you will be flying high. Same works for athletics, though all you need to do
is increase the effect duration, which can get much more costly than 3
seconds!

Leveling up like this is a bad idea in Oblivion because the monster
levels increase as your level does, but all your other skills not
being 'trained' by using the 'q' key will not be improving.

Cheating? Hmmm...This might be kind of long... Smile

Leveling up mistakes-- tell me about it! When I first got this game I made
potions like crazy & then kept leveling up... Think the game had me at L-10
or some ridiculous number. Of course I got slaughtered when I entered my
first dungeon. Lesson Learned: do *not* blaze through a major skill! Smile

But Trinity, your idea about "cheating"... Hmmm... Hadn't thought of it that
way.

<pauses to ponder>

I can see your point. I'm not "playing" the game in the spirit in which it
was intended, but why waste time watching your character tread water?

I look at it this way. I *am* playing by the rules-- e.g. Spending the
actual game time it takes to build up that skill.

My mage *could* still drown if the "Q" key approach eventually works him out
of the corner of the pool & he gets his head under water. So I'm "playing"
the game by taking the calculated risk of leaving it unattended.

Make sense? Heh! Maybe don't answer that one! Wink

More curious than serious about it at this point. How long *does* it take?

(And if anyone is interested, his skill level is now 88 & counting.)

So anyone here maxed out Athletics? If so, how long did it take?

Anyway I'm rooting for my "abandoned" character now & hope he doesn't
accidently drown.

"He's gonna make it folks! He's gonna make it to 100! --'Myrddin the Mage
And Marathon Swimmer of Vilverin'--"

Cheers,

--------
BTW: DeAnn, I read your post about a.g.mw when I was catching up on things.
Didn't see *any* activity there for October. Bummer... but as someone else
posted-- you're not alone. I enjoyed reading your "Archers of White Oaks"
installments. Think it would piss people off if I posted a little something
of my own? No one really "knows" me since I mainly lurk. Might come off as
a case of "newbie-itis"-- posting too much. Wink
--------

So back to lurking...

Me thinks this shows individual investigative incentive skill rather than
'cheating'.

I had / have a tactic in Morrowind of swimming out towards any of the big
game map edges
...& beyond them ...for many hours .
Every now & then Slaughter fish or some assorted sea creatures turn up to be
fought.
The sight of the sun rising & setting , stars twinkling etc. is gorgeous by
any modern standards.
it seems possible to swim on & on endlessly way off the world map edge.

I put my Char. up a number of levels like this.

Yes, that's pretty much what I was doing. "Inquiring" minds want to know...
<g>

FWIW (& to be forever Googled away under "useless trivia"...)

Playing Time of about 02:26 got character to 100 in "Sneak" near the "rat
around the corner" in tutorial dungeon.

But it took a whopping 75:32:12 game time (give or take a few hours) to get
100 in Athletics! (Think I'd just rather play the game.)

Such a strategy throws away attribute points of course, but may increase
odds for survival-- able to pick & choose fights; quicker fatigue regen with
melee weapons, etc.

Why thank you

<tips hat in return>

Playing a computer game versus *playing around* with a computer game... I'm
not sure which at this point... Smile
