Just got the game, and want to try the atronauch.
Does anyone know an easy way in the game to restore magicka with this
birth sign?
Is there some place where you can buy a spell to summon a creature that will
throw magic at you, that you may absorb to restore magicka?
Thanks >> Stay informed about: Elder Scrolls 3 question |

Sure is:
You can buy a summon Ancestral Ghost spell (if you dont already have it -
picking conjuration skill when starting the game should give it to you
automatically) from Heem-La, an Argonian mage at the Ald'ruhn Mage guild,
left of the main entry - he has his own room coz he's special....not really.
Then simply punch the ghost 3 times to get it to attack you with the
firebite spell.
Be warned though, the ghost will only attack you with its firebite spell
every 3 summons, so the 1st summon will strat out with firebite spell, then
the next 2 will try to hit you first. It will take practice. I find standing
next to a doorway and 'escaping' is the most effective way to deal with
replenishing magic and not getting hurt by the ghost when it runs out of
magic.
However, you 'might' want to try something else that is much much much more
effective, though might make the game too easy for you. This is a bit of a
cheat, as you exploit game mechanics that were not thought of. Simply buy a
drain intelligence spell (to get this simply buy the Drain Speed spell from
Erer Darothril in Sadrith Mora's Dirty Muriel's Cornerclub, and then when
you go to a spellmaker it will appear as 'drain attribute' rather than
'drain speed'). Once you have it go to a spellmaker, every mage guild has
one, and make a drain intelligence 100 for 2 seconds on self, it shouldn't
be too expensive and as its a short effect you should have little problems
casting it. What this will do is make you intelligence level zero for 2
seconds, yep your going to be a real dumbass - dont fret... only for 2
seconds, and it will 'reset' you magicka level back to full 100% after 2
seconds. Just keep in mind you can blow out as much magicka as you want, but
you must have enough left to cast the drain magicka spell to 'recharge' your
magicka, it is possible to do if you are carefull even in the most difficult
of fights, so long as you can find a safe 2 seconds.

Thank you.
What about in Oblivion? Can you summon an ancestral ghost for the atronauch
in this game? Where do you buy the spell to summon ancestral ghost here?

errr for Oblivion? My guess would be Chorrol, since its mage guild
specializes in conjuration. But oblivion has magicka regen, why would you
pick the Atronach birthsign when such an awesome effect of restoring magicka
over time is implemented? Remember that in Oblivion you have several ways to
recharge magicka: one of the best is through potions and welkynd stones
(that recharge your magicka 100%). Just keep a few of these, you are boud to
pick up a lot of these in your travels, and you will never have a problem
with your magicka.

When I was playing Morrowind, someone told me that you have to play the
atronauch if you wanted access to the really powerful spells that come later
in the game.
Is the same true in Oblivion?
Also, in Oblivion can you play a mage type and still do a lot of hack and
slash later on, the way you could in Morrowind?
Which birth sign did you pick?
Thanks

For Morrowind, Atronach birthsign is a must, there are a lot of trapped
doors, and fights that will involve magic and having the absorb magic
ability is very usefull. In Oblivion this is not really so. The deal with
Morrowind was the higher amount of magicka you had, the stronger the spell
you could cast (but also the higher chance of failing it). In Oblivion, the
higher your skill is for the spell you are casting (ie conjuration skill for
summoning monsters) the lower and lower amount ok magicka it will cost you -
th amount of magicka you spend decreases as your skill increases - really
handy since your magicka is going to increase as you level.
Also remember that in Oblivion there is no such thing as 'fail' a spell or a
hit with a sword, you will always do damage, so yes it is very possible to
be a high powered mage and go at it wit ha sword, though its not recommended
as Oblivion, unlike morrowind, will level all monsters you encounter as you
level up - so Morrowind gets easier as you level up, while Oblivion remains
at the same difficulty or harder the higher your level. The way spells work
in Oblivion is you have to be at a higher skill level to cast the higher
level (and more powerfull) spells, and you will not be able to buy high
level spells at low levels (where in morrowind you can, though you will have
a lot of 'fun' trying to actually cast it).
Not only skill level will come into casting high level spells, but also your
magicka amount. You might notice that some spells you would like to buy will
list as 'you do not have enough magicka' so you cant buy it or make use of
it. Thats when enchanting comes into it, you can gather as many constant
fortify magicka enchantments as possible (through sigil stones and souls you
capture in soul gems). It all takes a bit of getting used to.
Personally, The Apprentice is my favorite sign for Oblivion, since even in
the mages guild quests, you actually dont find that much magic being thrown
at you, and you can actually complete the mage guild quests without any
expertise in magic at all, which was not possible in Morrowind. Of course
Atronach for Morrowind is a must, it makes the game a bit easier, but also
after a while you can get sick of it not recharging... Note that in Oblivion
your magicka recharges based on your willpower attribute, so the higher
willpower the faster your magicka will get back to full. So at high levels
you can deal out lots of magicka and have it get back to full within 10 or
20 seconds, its really handy.

Thanks for this great information.
Now it can all be fun.
Now what about leveling up?
Is it the same way as it is in Morrowind, where
you can go up on three different skills by purchasing them each
time you go up?

I just got my strength score to turn red, indicating it has been damaged.
Now I can't get it undamaged. I tried buying restore strength spell, and
used it, but it did not work. The strength score is still red.
Do I have to start over?

No... you might have contracted a disease of some sort, depending on if you
are playing Morrowind or Oblivion - Morrowind is packed with diseases, you
cant go anywhere without having at least one or two cure blight disease
potions on you, try that. >> Stay informed about: Elder Scrolls 3 question |

I'm playing Oblivion. I finally tried a cure disease potion, and it worked.
Just out of curiosity...is there any place in the Oblivion menus that tells
you that you are diseased, or poisoned, or cursed, or whatever? >> Stay informed about: Elder Scrolls 3 question |

Yep, in the magic menu, the last tab shows you the current magic effects
that you have. This will show you all effects from disease to constant
effect enchantments to spells. >> Stay informed about: Elder Scrolls 3 question |

"But he's not a mage!"
"I know, but I'm not going to be the one
to tell him he's unqualified. You do it!"
