| Hours do you play Thief or it's fan missions? I play about 3 hours a day
average. On weekends about 8 hrs. a day. Only the good missions though.

At my peak, it was probably 4 or 5 hours a day.

I just played a mission called oldsomeshop or some shopping. That alone
took 4 hrs. and I have played it before. It's weird how short your memory
becomes when replaying old missions.

Oops, was so intense on playing, I misspelled "Oblivion"
Graphics are pretty intense, but adjustable for older
cards. If you played Morrowind, it's by the same people.
Part of The Elder Scrolls.
They also have the expansion pack "Shivering Isles"
Skills build the more you use them. And about anyone
can also cast some magic.
I'm playing a character that's a thief, birthsign "thief".
You can sneak, steal, etc. But if you get caught, you
go to jail.
People have gone nuts making mods. Some good, some.....
well not so good. Right now, the main site with the mods
is down. Has been for about 5 days. This is the news and
information place for the game:
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page
For mods (the one that's down right now)
http://www.tessource.net/files/
Really good mods: Thievery in the Imperial City, The Lost Spires,
Zealots of the Nine. Plus a boat load of smaller ones.
There are mods to make the guards in each city different,
cheat mods, portable homes, clothing, weapons, races, some
to enhance the scenery,....just about anything you can think of.
Oh, there's even a mod "Thief's arsenal" that had to be done
by a Thief player/FM maker. The salesperson is named Basso,
and he has gas and water arrows.
In the game you can, but don't have to, join the thief's guild,
the fighter's guild, or the mage's guild. Each have quests for
you to do. Plus there are quests given to you by NPCs.
If you murder a person, you get a visit by the Dark Brotherhood
and can join the assassin's guild.
Horses to ride, things to fight. More a regular RPG type game,
but I am having fun thieving.
Right now, I'm a bit soured on the FMs of late. Seems more a
contest to have new textures, monsters, and Tomb Raider type
stuff than Thief with a good story line and action. So I've put
Thief on the back burner for awhile.....blah, blah,blah....
Anyway, you might want to take a look at the info link. >> Stay informed about: How Many? |

Ok I checked this game out by online reviews. Looks like a good one. By
all the Thief inspirations in it were there some original Thief creators
involved in the making of it? As for new Thief fan missions, have you tried
the Bathory one? It's pretty good but the ending was too brief. Best
missions were the ones by Christine and Andrea Allotti and Istan Varga. >> Stay informed about: How Many? |

Bathory doesn't ring a bell. As per Christine, one of the best FM makers.
People at work (that I have made "thief aware") affectionally refer to her
as "the doughnut lady" because of the pastries in her FMs.
Allotti and Varga.....enjoyed their FMs. They are on my list of play again.
About Oblivion....doubts are thief creators involved, but Thief was sure
to have influienced it some, either by game, or Thief fans that have made
mods for it.
Picking locks is interesting. There are levels of difficulties and you have
to
knock the pins up and lock them in place. It's a matter of timing....goof
and
you break a lockpick. When you run out of picks....too bad.
The game's been out about 10 months, so price should be lower than the
$45 I paid for it. >> Stay informed about: How Many? |

I play seasonally, Fall and Winter.
Been doing that for a few years now. Fall and Winter seems like a great
time of the year to play Thief and its many missions: the days are
short and the nights are long and very dark.

Nice concept. Doubt I could go that long without playing, but wrapped up
in Bioshock now which is completely different except for safe cracking.

It keeps all the sneaking and looting and zombie-baiting and
blackjacking fun and fresh!

Worst part about Thief fan missions is not knowing what's around the next
corner. Instead of hiding in a dark alcove cause you hear a bunch of guards
or bots, I save my game and do a suicide run into the next section to see
where all the action is. Sometimes failure is only one guard. Why wait for
the action?

That is where the "portable" eye comes in hand. I don't use it much
and usually reload after using it in case I really need it.

Only time I used that was when I threw it over the wall at the beginning
of a mission in Thief 2 and saw the dancing dead couple. The guy looked like
Ozzy. Flash bombs are the best. Two water arrows will disable a large robot
from behind and one overhead swipe from a sword will kill an undead hammer.

IIRC, some of the bots in Soulforge were stationary and positioned
with their backs to a wall. God I hate that mission, still haven't got
round to completing it.
