I haven't been here in a while taffers, but I was wondering if anyone has
hinted at a 4th installment of the Thief Series? If not, perhaps this will
spark some conversation or interest. I know T S kinda made the game come
full circle. And, if it has, that is fine. But, that doesn't mean that the
series can't go on. Perhaps along the lines that Garrett has decided to
retire from actively pilfering from the populous. Instead, he could have set
up a guild where a new generation of thieves are trained. Perhaps being able
to choose your gender and inproving your skills at certain things. I think
it would be interesting anyway. They definately need to bring back rope
arrows, and the ability to swim....Just my two cents I guess.
Anyway, take care all! From the lazy taffer....

I've not followed the news much but as far as I know there's been no word.
Someone may correct me though.
And I agree with your thoughts about a more "rpg" style sequel. It would be
a good way of taking the series further, but knowing that alot of the
original talent behind the thief series may not be involved might mean the
quality is far less. I say get Bethedsa to do it, the stealth approach of
Oblivion was great. Another option is the Splinter Cell engine. The original
Thief writers could probably do that quite well too. >> Stay informed about: Thief: 4? |

But did T S sell well enough to make a sequel economically viable, because
I remember it being heavily discounted fairly soon after being released. The
cost of making games is now so ridiculously high that you need them to be
a guaranteed big seller before any developer would even consider making a
sequel.

I would certainly hope they do not try to make a sequel. They damaged
the game so completely with 3 that it's pretty much irrecoverable.
Destroying the illusion of playing AS Garrett with 3rd person
perspective, lack of rope arrows, complete lack of atmosphere or a sense
of purpose (aka - bad plot, poor locations, incredibly low character
involvement).....i could go on...
T2 fan missions have proven to be much better than T S could ever hope
to be and as long as that keeps up there isn't much need for a new game
anyway.
All good things must come to an end. >> Stay informed about: Thief: 4? |

I would like to see Thief 4 - but only if the game returned to its roots.
i.e: better plot and atmosphere, rope arrows and swimming, etc. I'm not
holding my breath.
What may be more realistic would be a new campaign by the authors of T2X.
Given the quality of their first release (yes, it has flaws, but it's still
pretty good) I would be willing to pay for a sequel.

I agree. Go back to a sequel to 2 and forget about 3. Just like the
Halloween movies. Forget 3 existed and get back on track.

Well, there'll be something called The Dark Mod, that will be Thief 4 for
me. Basically fan made missions using the Doom3 engine. Maybe we'll see
something similar in scope to T2x popping up. Would love that.
