Hello. I'm new to GTA 3...PC version. I'm looking for recommendations
for websites that would have tips on how to get through some missions.
I Googled and found one, but it's difficult to understand. Probably
just me. I finally made it through all of Luigi's jobs in the
beginning, and I'm working on Joey's now. Awesome game, but I'm finding
some of the jobs extremely difficult and I'm ready to give up. I'm not
an expert gamer! Smile

Thanks!

There are many way ways to get through most missions. I often replay
missions using different weapons, vehicles, routes, etc. just to have
a better replay experience. If your mission solution doesn't work
after a few tries, do something different.

You should feel free to ask about this group about specific missions.
Tell what you tried and someone will usually offer up a different
approach.

Also, you may want to try using a game controller if you are having
problems that are related to the keyboard controls. I find a d-pad
much easier to use than the keyboard.

GameFAQ's is a good place for guides, - the PS2 FAQ's is useful for the PC
version also:

Oh, it is. Or at least analog input for throttle and brakes are
possible with the "San Andreas Advanced Controls" program. But the
only gamepad I know of with working analog buttons on a PC is the Xbox
controller.

It works with a PS2 controller and PS2->USB adaptor as well. I can also get
viibration effects.

Not for this old rookie!!! Although I finally got him after a whole
bunch of attempts. I'm stuck on Turismo. Tried the firetruck, tried
the Diablo car. I can't win. I moved on to "Taking Out the Laundry"
because I was incredibly frustrated, but I'm stuck on that now, too.
I'll just keep trying!

Good to know, but which adapter? I have one from Joytech, but it's
really a PS1 adapter and doesn't understand the analog buttons at all.

Fire truck or cop car and as it is GTA3 use the better handling cheat
if you need to. I haven't done this one in a while but if memory
serves me right the main thing is not to try taking the corners at
full speed, be aware that they are almost bound to put something in
your way when you're in a blind spot, so going at full speed just
means more chance of losing control and severely damaging the car.
Obviously the fire truck is tougher so it'll take more knocks and
having sirens switched on can clear the road for you.

I parked a car near his getaway Perennial ready for a chase, but in the end
I just needed a quick sprint at him once he left his booth, and I brought
him down with a Mac I found on a roof near the coach station.

Did that one last night, too. It's easy* in the Banshee that's parked at the
car showroom. The problem is not so much the other competitors, it's the
cars that turn into your path without warning. Just blitz down the
straights, avoid your competitors on the corners, and each time you approach
a junction, have an "escape plan" for each car that might turn. Once they
are behind you, they aren't a problem.

The whole reason the firetruck is recommended is because it blasts through
obstructive cars almost as if they weren't there, and it's quite quick. It
steers like a cow, but it's tough enough to suffer the use of crashing into
building walls to help you point the right way.

* OK, fairly easy. Second attempt.

Where do you get a sniper rifle that early in the game? Or did you use a cheat?

I like to use the Borgnine Taxi for Turismo. It is reasonably fast, and more
importantly tough enough to get through the race in one piece.

I might be thinking of Liberty City Stories, but isn't there a sniper
rifle on top of Luigi's club?

I think you can also get one as a reward for collecting hidden
packages, but this requires getting to Staunton and Shoreside early. If
you can get over there, nick a Dodo from the airport and store it in
your Portland garage, or complete the Import/Export garage to get an
unlimited number.

Cheers,
Rob

ME? Cheat? :O) I think I allowed myself the little luxury of a few
weapons as it doesn't go against you in GTAIII, only the following
games.... yeah, I have had a quick look and I think that's what I did.
