crystal X field and engineless ships

Post subject: crystal X field and engineless ships

i read somewhere that ships without engines are immune to the capture
feature of the x-field device owned by crystals. but the document i
read it from seemed a tad bit dated. so i was curious to know if this
is still the case, and if it is no longer the case, what happens to
those starbases with no engines. instant ownership for the crystals.
or where some sort of exceptions put into place.

The x-field device requires a ship to have 100+ engine damage in order to
capture it.
The standard way Crystals do this is by using their web minefields. However
engineless
ships don't get engine damage when detonating webs, so you would have to
give them
engine damage in another way.

im confused here because i know you do get engine damage when the
crystals explode a web minefield on you
however im thinking if you dont engines, you cant take damage
correct. and are therefore immune to x-field capture correct?

from the wiki:Damage done during detonation

* Any enemy or ally ship that is in a web minefield that explodes
takes 10% engine damage and the ship is stopped.



but my question again is if no engines, is there anyway the crystal
xfield device can capture a ship without engines. since it requires
the ship to have 100% engine damage

as for getting engine damage another way, what and or how are you
referring?

That's what I wanted to say: Engineless ships don't get damage from
detonating webs. Sorry forgot the part about the engines... Wink

In fact I don't know if there is a way to give an enigneless ship engine
damage (wouldn't make sense either). Maybe due to combat, maybe not - I have
no clue.

I haven't tested this with the new host. Back in the day the Gravmine,
when detenated did engine damage, even when the ship had no engine.
How do I know? I played the CoM in a game vs. the Xtals and built
Virgos with out engines, They still can light speed who knew? When the
Xtals det web mines nothing happened, but when he det gravmines my
virgos took enough engine damage to stop light speed. Not enough to
capture, but enough to prevent them from moving. If gravmines still
do damage to ships without engines then perhaps enough of them could
be det over a ship to capture? Haven't had a need to test this with
the new host. You could script with a warrior shuttle with no engines,
I know with older host they took around 91% engine damage from a grav
mine detenation. Hope this helps?
