i've been sent to the abyss two or three times (stone soup, 3.2 - 3.3;
havent been yet in 3.4). on one of these trips i encountered a Shrine
to Lugano. then i found another. and another. and maybe a few more,
can't recall. i am pretty certain that it wasnt _only_ the wraparound
nature of Hell; at least some of them were seperate shrines. to my
shame i must admit to being to timid/careful to convert; wish i had as
the character (dwarf fighter i think) didnt make it out. so,
questions: what gives? who is Lugano? anyone ever worshipped him?
was i hallucinating?

All I know is what I've see from following r.g.r.m, seeing as I only
started playing rhe game a week ago. However, from what I've seen
Lugano is a god of chaos, and converting to him will get you out of
the Abyss. Hence I suppose why the Crawl manual says "there is more
than one way out of the abyss". I don't know what the specifics of the
god are, but someone else on here said that Lugano was a pretty decent
god and that the main drawback to conversion was just having to start
from scratch piety-wise.

You'll have to wait for someone with more experience for more details
beyond that though. Razz

I've won a Lugonu game. I had a lot of trouble because I had been
worshipping Vehumet, who doesn't train Invocations at all, and Lugonu's
powers depend on Invocations for success. If you go Lugonu early, though,
or if you already have Invocations trained up, s/he offers some pretty
interesting and fun abilities.

(Why didn't I just train invocations? I was late in the game and honestly
didn't need Lugonu for much --- but I was a naga, and the Abyss was
hurting me something awful. Of course, my very next Vehumet abandonment
effect was banishment...)
