Normally I wouldn't say anything like this, but ignore it!
DO NOT INSTALL THE "GENUINE ADVANTAGE" PROGRAM!!
You will keep getting Windows security updates for your current version of
XP anyway. But...if you install the Genuine Advantage program, you can kiss
your current operating system, and fun as you know it, good bye!
I didn't do it on my laptop (legal version anyway) and no problemo.
I did, however, install it on my pc and I've been having problems booting
up my pc, after installing the legal OS, ever since.
There is no warning whatsoever whether or not your hardware is compatible
with Windows XP SP2 and in my case I'm looking at a possible replacement of
the motherboard to get everything going again!
Thank you Microsoft for that warning! I appreciate it! NOT!!
XP SP1 was running perfectly fine, but XP SP2 wants more.
I got my hands on an illegal copy of XP SP1 (I figured I'd install it and
then use the legal XP SP2 to upgrade within Windows), but it's not a
bootable cd! Aaaaaaaaaarghhhhhhhhh!!! This isn't my month!!
So PapaGeorge...doing the right thing is sometimes the wrong choice.
Do what you will with this advice, but if I could do it all over again....I
wouldn't do it.
Good luck.
