Hi all,
Since finishing all of the classes in vanilla Nethack I decided to try
a conduct game. This is really more like it - much more challenging
and fun, in my opinion.
I went with a Monk. My conducts by the end were:
You were vegetarian.
You never hit with a wielded weapon.
You never genocided any monsters.
You never changed form.
You used no wishes.
Also - No body armor.
Vegetarian wasn't so hard. In fact Vegan wouldn't be much harder,
especially if you find Ludios before getting hungry and low on food.
No wielded weapon - I ruined a few Monks before this one by
accidentally hitting something with a pickaxe. This time I was very
cautious.
No genocide - I quit genocide a long time ago. The game is just more
intresting with L's and h's alive.
Never changed form - I usually don't polymorph anyway.
No wishes - Makes for a much greater challenge.
No body armor - I elected to never wear body armor.
The one thing I did do was polypile, with the single wand of poly I
found. I think I could have won without poly-piling but, when it came
down to it I just wanted a ring of slow digestion. I never found a
naturally occuring one until Gehennom.
Stuff I never found:
* Bag of holding. Made inventory control very interesting. I had to
trek back to my stash a lot for forgotten spells and holy water. I
left all gems and coins behind since score didn't matter to me.
* Ring of levigation. Had to carry different boots around with me. I
had a scare coming out of the Sanctum when I realized I had no
levitation boots and my Lev spell was forgotten. Luckily I had a wand
of teleport and got away from the lava.
* Magic Whistle - never found one. One of my key strategies is usually
Charm Monster / Magic Whistle.
* Scroll of charging - never found one.
As luck would have it, smoky potions were Full Healing. So I passed up
at least 4 Djinn wishes. Also found one magic lamp and there were 2
zaps in the castle wand, making 11 wishes I ignored.
Met Dispater for the 2nd or 3rd time ever. He's a tough one.
My main strategy at the end was to use conflict and run away from
battles. It worked very well in the endgame.
The only time I got close to death was against Master Kaen. Otherwise
I had bottles of full healing at the ready, but never used em. I had
two amulets of life saving but never died. I was never swallowed by an
air elemental in the plains.
I think for the ultimate game, besides pacifist which is just absurd,
is no polypile & no conflict in addition to all of the above.
I now feel I'm ready for Slash 'em. Here goes nothing.
