I am thinking of getting a Nintendo DS and play some GBA games.

Are all the games backwards compatible?

All GBA games are compatible (I think even the ones with dongles and
such; I know the Boktai games are).
No pre-GBA games are compatible.

It's backwards compatible, but the multi-player fuctions may not work.
