If you only knew how I envy you! I am thoroughly fascinated with the
history, culture, nature, music and whiskies of said region. I really should
go there some day.

My main char #1 & #1A (orig human rogue moved off-realm and new blood elf
rogue that replaced the former human rogue on the same pvp realm) is my
wife's nickname. (sorry not revealing, I'm one of those who doesn't like to
propogate the newsgroups with my actual charnames)
My main char #2 (troll hunter) is named after my favorite breakfast
cereal...

I have fascination for Scotland and I collect knives => Mcblade it is. (I
also used to have a warrior named Mcknife, but he died, permanently.) Other
than that it really depends. I tried out a draenei shaman at one time and
when I was thinking of a name I noticed a bottle of compressed air (for
cleaning electronics) on my desk -> Mcduster.

I'm finnish(-swedish) so at least something I could come up with would
likely sound at least a bit original to the majority out there. How about
"Saippuakauppias" or "Jakorasia"...

It is so much less exciting than that Smile It literally means "soap salesman"
and coincidentally it is also the longest known one-word palindrome in the
world.

lol, i did the same with my undead warlock: Malganon. Just sounds right
with the 'mal', although I can't help but feel I've heard it somewhere
before. I think there is a WoW boss with a similar name.

That's quite a good name, and also a very inaccessible band.

With the exception of my gnome rogue, who I called "Wadget" because it just
seemed to fit, all of my characters had their names stolen from
"Hellspark", a sci-fi book by Janet Kagan. *

Ooh, almost forgot. I also have a gnome mage who I never play anymore named
"Wiffo". Something about gnomes demands silly names. *

I once created a Human Warlock. I planned to do Alchemy with her, so I
named her "Sulphur". Once I had logged in, I realized I had misspelled
it "Suphur" (Suffer). Seeing that she was a warlock, it was still quite
apt.

Sounds more like a "name" anyway, and a good one. I bet you anything
Sulphur was taken already.

I developed similar naming strategy Smile

Names of my alts starting from third are usually a word describing his
character or feature in language I don't speak modified to fit my view
of how male or female name should sound, for example:
- female gnome frost mage has name derived from 'frost' in japanese
- name of human warlock (which previously was an evil paladin and
changed his occupation at the age of 31) has name that means 'light
and darkness' in some language no-one knows.

Hmm, and I thought this rogue Xgf and hunter Fbc killing gray
mobs in Western Plaguelands were bots, now I'm not so sure Wink

I try to come up with names that fit the character, although sometimes I
just plump for one that simply sounds fantasy-like or mythological.

My main is called Weeble (they wobble, but don't fall down) and he's a
gnome; then I have[1] Holstein (Tauren), Jaybee (a priest), Odysseus,
Sophocles, Varðlokkur (a warlock), and several others that I can't even
remember <g>

______
[1] Not in any order, but these are the ones that I consider still
"active", ie. ones I do play or will probably play again.

Sounds like the average name of a heavy metal singer to me Smile
