My first character was a warrior. I played her until about level 5, then I
noticed the mages wandering around casting all these wonderful spells. I
thought to myself -- gee my warrior sure is dull, and I abandoned her for one
of these wonderful mages with all their interesting and unique spells.
At level 20, the mage started having all sorts of difficulties grinding. He
was easily killed. He could handle mobs his own level, and maybe a level
higher, but if even 2 or 3 mobs lower than him ganged up on him, he was
rapidly killed. Maybe I just never learned how to crowd control with him, as
he usually panicked and sheeped exactly the wrong mob at exactly the wrong
time. At level 22 I started to grow frustrated.
Then I noticed this chick running around with this big blue behemoth
following her around. She was around the same level as me. The big blue thing
could charge in and start harassing 2 or even 3 of the mobs that would have
quickly killed my mage while she stood back and casted the occasional spell.
There was no sheeping, no freezing and running to a safe distance, and no
running out of mana. I wanted one of those big blue things.
So I rerolled a 'lock, and times were good. She's now at level 51 and has not
only one of those big blue things to fight for her, but also something that
looks like dog with huge teath that loves to spot stealthed rogues, a
dominatrix with a whip, and even this big guy with a double-sided axe that
looks like something out of a horror movie. Along the way she decided she
liked to play battlegrounds, but now she's stuck at an inappropriate level
for battleground play. Even when she was 49 and dominating the battlegrounds,
she still had to watch out for those pesky warriors who if they got near her
would slice her to pieces.
So now I find myself going back to that original warrior so I can build her
up to be a level 19 or level 29 twink so she can find and destroy warlocks
and mages in the battlegrounds. Somehow things have gone full circle and that
uninteresting warrior that I started with now looks like she might have her
uses. The 'lock will remain my main, but the way the BGs are designed, you're
almost forced to keep an alt around who's level ends in 9.
In answer to my original subject, for me the ideal character is a warlock and
it took me rolling two other characters (playing one all the way up to level
22) before I realized this.

When my brother told me about the game, I started checking it out on
the official site and long before I bought the game, I had decided on
warlock. Since then I have rolled 2 warlocks. I have started at
least 1 of every class currently in the game. Of that, the highest I
have leveled anything other than a warlock is my druid, who is at 23.
I have a hunter I leveled to 20, a mage at 15, and a paladin at 11.
Everything else got boring for me before level 10, but I still plan to
go back to them and try to level them further to see if they become
more interesting. >> Stay informed about: How many characters did you roll before you found one you .. |

I'll still haven't been able to really get into a warlock. I've started
a few of them, the highest to 18. I'm considering starting a new one as
an orc, to give it another shot and mainly because Durotar is the only
starting area I haven't played all the way through yet.
But to answer your question, I started with a human mage and took him to
44, then I started itching for something new. Tried a Tauren druid but
got bored, then a NE hunter which I love til about level 24. Then I went
on an alt-rolling spree, finally settled on a BE hunter to 57, then a
Tauren shaman to 51, then *finally* I wanted to try a druid again so I
started a new one, and now here I am at 70, very happy with my favorite
class. I just love that they can do everything. >> Stay informed about: How many characters did you roll before you found one you .. |

In WoW I just wanted to play two diverse characters so the gameplay would be different and hopefully exciting. I wanted a hume hunter but none existed, so I went with the night elf hunter.
in the begining of WoW:
I like the rogue (Final Fantasy XI, I have a Hume Rogue).
I like the Hunter (Final Fantasy XI, I have a Hume Ranger).
The pet was an extra feature I discovered with the WoW hunter.
That is all I wanted to play. So that is as far as I went when I started WoW.
Of course now in Final Fantasy XI online I have two lvl 75 white mages (Elf and Mithra), A level 49 Taru Black mage, A level 54 Elf Rogue, A level 33 hume rogue, and a lvl 34 hume ranger, a level 12 white mage Mithra.
Soooooooooo maybe I might roll another character in WoW someday.
Then it will become pretty much what you descibe - I will explore all the possibilities.

I started out as a shaman during the Beta. I levelled to 38, knowing
that the character would end up deleted when the game came live. I
wasn't totally satisfied, but I was willing to dig out more of the
game. During that same beta, I also started a warrior, which I got to
level 20.
Then WoW came Live, and I immediately started two other characters: a
hunter (which got to 24) and a mage (which reached 22). These two
would have been my main character had I not fell into the trap of
Agamaggan, also known as the unofficial spanish server. I also rolled
a warrior on a RP server (which reached, again, 20). I wasn't totally
satisfied, and rerolled on Sunstrider as soon as it opened with people
from this newsgroup.
I choosed Priest, and that character became my main. Technically I had
tried 4 classes before the priest, and played five characters through
the Barrens and the Wailing Caverns before I sticked to Priest. As a
matter of fact, I've rolled more warriors than any other class (seven
warriors of levels 5, 14, 15, 20, 20, 35, 61), and less priests than
any other class (one priest of level 70).
I'm a big alt-aholic though, on Sunstrider Horde alone my account
features:
_70 priest
_70 hunter
_61 warrior (migrated in at level 45)
_60 rogue
_35 warrior (deleted)
_35 mage
_29 shaman
_23 paladin
_16 warlock
_13 druid
_5 warrior (deleted)
_several level 1 characters that were deleted. >> Stay informed about: How many characters did you roll before you found one you .. |

First I tried a NE Hunter. Didn't really enjoy her, but that was
because I was soloing and knew absolutely nothing about the game. It
finally took a co-worker who played to say, "Look. You're having so
much trouble because you're in rags. Go buy some armor. You need to
stable your pet, and tame another to learn new skills". Etc.
Then it was a Warlock, whom I got to 44. Then a Druid, but I got a
little tired of all the constant shape-shifting to heal, etc. Then a
Shaman I got to 45.
Then I switched to Horde in March and got a Hunter to 70. I liked the
ease of play, but, ultimately, I hated not being able to buff or heal.
I hated wiping in an instance and not being able to help, just keep FD
until the party was rezzed. Once she grouped for the Jintha'Alor
quests, and since we didn't have a healer, she spent a lot of time
sending her pet in, and healing folks with bandages.
Next up was my Paladin, and that was it for me. I've discovered that I
don't really enjoy being squishy, and I just love that he can buff and
heal. To me there's nothing better than riding somewhere, seeing
someone in trouble, and being able to save them.
He's 70 now, and no other character of mine will ever have a place in
my heart like this ridiculous little Blood Elf.

Hmm, odd. I never had to buy armor, for any class.
The armor that drops or is given as quest rewards
is good enough to solo in for a hunter (maybe not
good enough to group with if the other people are
picky though). Hunter doesn't need armor for]
protection anyway, only for the stats. If all
the armor is white, then the extra stats will be
useful, but it's hard to above level 20 without
ever getting usable green items from drops or
quest rewards.
I've also found that the player who doesn't
have good armor generally doesn't have enough
money to buy stuff at the auction house anyway.
Hunter seems to be the easiest class to solo
for first time players. That is, bad gear and
bad play style won't completely halt the
character. The only thing you really need
to do is train the pet to have a new level
of growl every 10 levels.
My first character was paladin, during the 10
day trial. Also created a druid that was to
be used to group with a friend on the horde
side. Then also tried out a hunter and warlock
before the trial was up. That hunter became
the "main" character (always higher level than
the others).
After getting the game for real after about
a few weeks off, I found the paladin hard to
play. Confused by seals/judgements, and the
difference between crusader and judgement
seal. Plus too much stuff in Dun Morogh
was kicking my butt (troll casters). So
I rerolled as a warrior, natively thinking
this would be easier (point at enemy and
keep bashing). But he hit a wall in the
mid teens. When my friend wanted another
partner to group with I rerolled as a
paladin again, this time finding it a lot
easier and more fun.
So in essence, the first character I rolled
was the one I liked, even though he was
rerolled a couple of times. But it was the
3rd character I rolled that had the most
staying power and got the highest level.

My first char was a hunter. As cliche as it sounds, I REALLY wanted
to play a night elf, because they were cool . Now, in every other
game I've EVER played, I've always favored the mage/wizard class.
Unfortuneatly, Night Elves can't be mages. They also can't be
Warlocks EITHER (which to me sounded like the next best thing). To
somebody new to the game both Priest and Druid seemed like straight
healers (didn't know they could be made into caster DPS at all), so I
figured I'd go with Hunter. Still ranged DPS, and the whole "damage
from a distance" with the bow concept appealed to me after seeing Lord
of the Rings. I found the pet concept a bit cheesy but oh well, could
live with it.
Got that guy to level 34 before becoming bored out of my mind,
noticing that it was taking FOREVER to level at this point (not that
hunter is slow to level, just that to someone playing their first
MMORPG the crawl that leveling gets to in the 30's is something new).
SO, I decided to roll a mage just to kill time. Leveling would be
fast again, and it would be fun to try the class that I had actually
wanted to play (as an aside, since I figured this would just be a
temporary toon, I rolled this one as a female as opposed to my male
hunter). Started playing and instantly liked the mage more. After
playing MANY single player RPG's, and always playing a caster, I was
very used to the "hits hard but dies easy" mindset, and never had
issues with her. Kept playing her and realized by the time I was
level 25 or so that I was not only close to my hunter's level, but
that I hadn't even logged into that char since I'd started the mage.
By the time I hit 45 I was getting a little bored again, and had saw a
druid throw a few caster type spells at some mobs (they were casting
Wrath).
SO, I took a break from the mage, and rolled a druid. Liked the druid
ok, but noticed that unlike the mage, I died a lot casting spells, and
burned through mana even faster, meaning I had to drink more, but
couldn't make my own water. By the time I made it to level 20 I was
tired of the druid and went back to my mage.
So, mage gets leveled from 45 to 60 fairly fast. I got into my
current guild at that time and they were just pushing into ZG. The
second guild run was 1 month away and I made it a point to be 60
before that run took off. . Hunter still at level 34 where I left
him .
So we raid ZG for a month or two, puging where needed. Eventually I
learn that lots and lots of raids are canceled because of lack of
healers. Many times I thought "If I just had a priest I'd heal the
darned run. I don't mind.". Then I thought: you know, even though
she wasn't rolled to heal, I do have that lvl 20 druid. Druids aren't
quite a priest, but they're ALMOST as good. So I go back to the
druid, and quickly learn that I can kill things faster as a cat than
as a caster. Kitty kills, kitty turns to elf, heals, then goes back
to kitty and kills again. And since I'd already been through most
quests as a mage, I leveled much quicker as I spent less time looking
for stuff. Druid hits 70 a few days before BC comes out. Hunter is
still level 34 . . .
Both the mage and the druid get to 70, and then I finally decided to
start leveling the hunter again. Surprising thing was that after
learning raid mechanics, tanking, aggro generation, etc, playing the
hunter was MUCH easier and faster than before. He's now up to level
69 and should hit 70 this week. I still like my mage more for raid
DPS, but for farming my hunter is just plain faster.
Sometime between BC coming out and present day I also have gotten a
lvl 27 Shaman, a lvl 34 Priest, a lvl 12 Paladin, and a lvl 19
Warlock. I'm going to TRY to level the priest up if I can. Unless
Warlocks continue their stomping all over mages in DPS (which is
supposed to be fixed a bit in 2.3) then I doubt I'll ever touch the
other classes. 4 70's should be enough . Of course, I'm sure I'll
have to level a Death Knight when they come out too .

I spent some time on the WoW main site forums for some time, but I

loved the sound of the Pally, but that was a long time ago and I have
an aversion to rolling any character as Alliance.
I played my rogue, and only him, till I hit 60. I have a 23 Druid
(which I really like, but no time to level), a 40 something Hunter
that I let my son play, and now finally I've started a Belfadin. He's
level 21 as of last night. And I was right, I'm thoroughly enjoying
him I also have an Orc warrior @ level 21 as well.
I've played almost every class in the game to level 20 at least
(except a warlock, seem MUCH to similar to a Hunter so I passed), some
a bit higher, but those are the only one's that I've kept so far. >> Stay informed about: How many characters did you roll before you found one you .. |

My first character was a warrior. I picked it under the (mis)assumption
that a basic figher is pretty straightforward and easy to get a hang on.
While this wasn't my first MMO, it was a new game and I figured I'd ease
into it. Played him up to 20, but was finding it harder and more
frustrating to solo.
One day, while waiting for a couple of friends to come online to help me
with a stuck point, I rolled a hunter to waste some time, and utterly
fell in love with it. Went NE, because my warrior was a dwarf, and I
wanted something different, so it was my only other option (I didn't
have the expansion yet.) Having read all the derisive comments people
made about female NE hunters, I made mine male and very gruff and
weathered looking.
He's at level 70 now, and working on his Kara attunment and starting to
heavily run battlegrounds just for fun. I have rolled a human paladin
to experiment with next (every time I group with a Pally, they just
impress the living daylights out of me), but I don't seem to be in any
hurry to try him out.

Hmm, when I started with the 10 day free trial, I spent a day or two just
researching the different classes and races. After that I tried several
characters, so that I had at least one of each race and class. Of all
those my undead warlock felt most fun at the time. Though most others
were pretty fun too. Now my 'lock is still my main at lvl 70, but I got
most of the other classes to around 30 or so. Never could get in to
the rogue or warrior though. Don't really know why.
Some time ago a few of my friends started to level some alts and I got
myself a blood elf priest. Got him to around level 64 and parked there.
It was a blast with seeing almost every Azerothian instance, as we had
all the needed roles for instances already amongst us, but at the end
the priest as a shadow at least felt too much like a gimped warlock,
so lost my enthusiasm to get him to level 70. (And another grind for
epic tailoring sets wasn't sounding that fun either)
In the meantime wanted to try an rp-pvp server and got a druid
to Outland. (level 69 now.) And I have to say, that I really like how
the high level druid feels. It's pretty fun to dps and a blast to tank.
The only problem is, that my main's in a splendid guild and I will not
leave them behind. But on the other hand, now that I'm used to playing
druid with both Mangle and Omen of Clarity it's pretty painful to level
another one. Oh well, hopefully there are some guildmates' alts I can
level my new druid with as with a friend leveling is way more fun.

Started out with a dwarf hunter, levelled him up to 60 pretty quickly. My
only alt during that time was my warlock, which eventually became my raiding
main, as our guild had way too many hunters. This relegated my hunter to
farming duty, which he does quite well. Both of those are now 70, and I am
currently working on a priest, up to level 66 so far. I also have a level 47
warrior I fool around with now and then, and a level 19 pally BG twink I am
putting together. >> Stay informed about: How many characters did you roll before you found one you .. |

I am fairly new to the game (first month) and I am not done trying alts,
but my favorite class is clearly druid. My first character is a
Taurean druid, and I LOVE her. She's only level 15, because I juggle
several alts.
I have two other druids, one a level 16 elf. I LOVE HER. I love them all.
I also have two warriors, one elf, one undead. I love them too.
I also have a level 15 elf hunter. He kicks complete ass and I admit I
love him too.
I tried a mage, a warlock. Normally I prefer spellcasters, but I
couldn't get into those. The noob warlock's imp was horribly annoying -
chattering non-stop. I couldn't stand that for even an hour.
I love Taurens and Night elves the best, and I love Druids the best ~so
far~. I'm not finished trying them all. I'm trying to stay open minded.
What I love about my druids is how versatile they are. They can buff
and heal, they can tank (in feral form), and they have very respectable
spells.
What I love about my Elf hunter is the knife/bow combo is so wonderfully
effective at efficiently killing stuff. The pet is a huge advantage, an
awesome weapon and distraction tool. Plus he's a buddy. So cool.
My warriors are so tough and fearless. My undead warrior is level
eleven, and she uses a HUGE 2 hand sword. Fantastic. >> Stay informed about: How many characters did you roll before you found one you .. |

To level 5??? That is about half an hour and no toon gets anything
special until much later.
OTOH, my first toon was a warrior too, and I waited until level 58 to
abandon him. Maybe you just catch on quicker than I do...

For me it was probably a couple of hours, but that was mainly because I
didn't know what I was doing and had never played before. For example, I
thought that if I died other players would be able to loot my stuff (as if
anyone would want to loot my lvl 5 warrior gear), so I was paranoid about
getting killed. I still remember the horror of the first time someone
challenged me to a duel and thinking "please don't kill me!!!!"
Furthermore, I didn't realize the warrior got any special abilities. I
thought she was just a simple "attack with melee weapon" character. If I'd
known she got all kinds of unique abilities, then I might have pursued her a
bit further.
On a positive side, if I do decide to level her up, I should have no trouble
getting invited to instances, because someone is always "LFM ... need tank".
Nobody is ever "... need mage" or "... need warlock"
