Hi everyone,

I hate bunny-hopping in HL2DM. I think in most cases it does not have
anything to do with skill; it is just a script. The players get the
unfair advantage.

I heard that the multiplayer game Team Fortress 2 from the Orange Box
(which I have not got yet) is good. Is it prone to similar exploits ?
(Othervise, I would reconsider my intention to get Orange Box...)

Not as far as I have noticed and I've played it for a good few solid hours.

I don't recall seeing it. I think the gameplay is a bit too frantic for
bunny hopping to give an advantage.

Only soldiers jump around alot, but that's to get a better angle when
shooting at the enemies feet.

The scouts hop around alot but that is part of the tactics of using
them. they are fast runners and get a double hop but are easy to
kill. So the way you survive and kill with them is double hop around
your target for the height so you can fire at your target while avoid
them. Works good unless another enemy is at a distance then they can
just aim where you will be hopping and get a quick kill.

I think the very nature of it being frantic means bunny hopping is a definite
advantage. I play it a lot and and you most often see Scouts bunny hoping and
the occasional soldier but that's it.

The nature of bunny-hopping in HL2DM is that the practitioner of the
art can move faster (twice as fast ?) than an ordinary player. This
has to do with the pecularity of the gaming engine: when the player
turns, he gets a burst of speed. So that the bunny-hopping is the
succession of turnings. The higher speed and the longer jumps is what
gives such a player an unfair advantage.

So my question is: is it possible in principle to do such a bunny-
hopping in TF2 ? (If it's possible, then I am sure there will be the
people who could use it to their advantage.)

You occasionally meet a 'bouncy' solider but, to be honest, they're not
really any more difficult to kill.

For the scout, that's by design though.

All classes in TF have different movement speeds - the scout is the
'flag runner' class, therefore his natural run speed is twice as fast as
any other class. To counter that, he has low armour & weak weaponry
(Well, the shotgun is fairly powerful, but no match to the
HWG/Soldier/Pyro/etc). The scout also has a unique ability which
allows him to double-jump. This is similar to a bunnyhop in that it
works by jumping in mid-air, although there's no speed increase, it
merely increases the distance which the scout can jump, and is a
deliberate scout ability, rather than an exploit (No other class can do it).

Not that I've seen. The style of teamplay that TF employs makes such
exploits rather useless anyway - a lone gunner who runs past the
entrance to the enemy base will find himself blown up by grenades, or
burned to a crisp by a pyro, or turned to swiss cheese by a a sentry
gun, or..

probably easier to kill, since they lose a quarter of their health when
they rocket-jump Smile

The scout can also change direction in mid-air which makes he even more
difficult to hit. Still one of my favourite kills though was when I hit
one in mid-air with the RPG - that made a mess!

I've played about 20 hours so far and can't say I've seen this at all.
In fact I haven't heard of any 'gamemanship flaws' that have been
exposed in TF2 as yet. So far it seems to be a well balanced and fun
game and to make it even better it's surprising free of the idiots that
can spoil other online games.

Yeah, I like to doing that. It's like skeet shooting. I try that on the 2Fort
level waiting below the bridge where they try to leap across.
