Rolled up another, MA/DA.
Love martial arts, but haven't tried dark armor since the days when the
shields wouldn't stack.

The lack of knockback/immobilize concerns me so I was thinking of going
with the leaping pool, for CJ and acrobatics.

I see that some immobilize protection is available in cloak of shadows.

So to anyone with dark armor experience, just how vital is knockback
protection?

Bearing in mind that I took air superiority as a necessary filler attack
for martial arts, so flight already has it's pre-req.
[Going with flight also lets me take dark regen at 16 instead of 22.

My first 50 is a Dark/Dark Scrapper and I took AS/Fly. Love AS but
the knockback at higher levels can get crazy. Since this was also my
first toon it wasn't till later that I saw how good acrobatics is and
I probably would have gone that route instead. I know that with hover/
fly it offers knockback protection and keeps you above the caltrops
from those pesky knives of Artimus, but DA is a bit end heavy so it's
hard to also add fly to the end drain mix.

So keep AS, it's one of the best powers you can get, but start
developing Combat Jump, Super Jump = > Acrobatics, it will keep you in
the fight longer instead of getting thrown across the room. DE,
Nemesis, Malta, CoT earth mages, EB's, AV's, heck anything with foot
stomp will send you flying and not in the good way. The good news is
that you don't run into many of them in the lower levels but it
becomes more of a issue as you get into your 20's and it only gets
worse from there.

Or get one or two of the -KB enhancements. One will serve you well against
90% of the KB in game as far as PvE goes (PvP is another issue).

I put the defense one in combat jumps single slot and called it a day. EB's
still KB me on occasion, but not often. Didn't have to get Acrobatics or
add a slot to it for an extra endurance reducer (well I did get Acro to
start, just respeced out of it later).

I have a DM/DA brute myself.

I don't do PVP so that's a non-issue.

I looked into those -KB IOs, but at an average price of ~3 million or
more it will be a long time before this character could afford one.

I have others that could, but there's still the problem of transferring
it, since I rarely see SG mates or other known people online and I'd be
more than a bit leery of handing a 3mil+ item to a stranger to hold for
me.
Damn I wish CoH would put in something to let you transfer items between
your own characters without requiring an intermediary.

Thanks for the suggestion though, it opens a new possibility I hadn't
considered.

I know you have said what server you are on, but for the life of me I can't
remember. If it happens to be Champion I would be happy to help you with
the transfer.

I usually get one of the trial accounts and use it to make my swap. Just
run CoX times 2 and move around the influence/infamy. They do them often
enough that It ends up not being a huge problem. The part where I feel I
must design a complete costume/name/history slows me up a bit, but I can't
help myself.

Pretty much all of my currently played characters are on Victory.

As it happens, I logged onto Scarlet for the first time in a while and
found I had considerably less available cash than I thought, just a
paltry 2 million or so which isn't nearly enough for an anti-knockback
enhancement. I'd thought she had at least 10 mil left, but I guess I
bid high on a few things before plus shelled out for a full set of new
SOs.

So for the moment I'm leaning toward the leaping solution and took
combat jumping.

Should I manage to get one of those enhancements later by drop or bid I
can always respec out of leaping.

Dunno about running two sets of CoH at once over dialup though.

I know what you mean about costuming though; except when I'm reusing a
character concept and costume I tend to spend at least an hour tweaking
costume bits and colors to get things right.

That's actually how I ended up making the new MA/DA scrapper - I was
fiddling about in the creator and hit a look I rather liked (I'd never
used the "metal" costume (torso and legs "with skin" category) on any
character and was trying out things when I hit on a look I rather liked
and suited the Bonnie Bedlam character concept.

The orange goldish color (#6 on the brown line) for the spiked pauldrons
and metallic skull boots and gloves, and metallic small skull belt, and
tiara (all very shiny) and #3 green for the metal torso and legs.

Selling salvage provided me with enough inf to buy an insect wings
recipe to fill out the look.

The MA animations all have the blue impact glow which bugged me on
previous characters but rather suits Bonnie, since she's a many
thousands of years old Fey.

I have a Dark/Dark that's level 34 and the knockback from baddies was
driving me CRAZY! So, I used a few mil of the 27 mil I'd been lucky
to gather from Invention Salvage and Recipe drops (actually sold one
piece for just over 10 mil) and picked up the full set of Steadfast
Protection Invention Enhancements. I dropped them into my Obsidian
Shield power (because the total Damage Resistance for the entire set
is less than when using SO enhancements... but how much Psionic
Resistance Protection do I need). So, now, not only do I get the
Knockback protection but I also get a bonus to Health and
Regeneration.

So far, those minor changes have been a big PLUS to how easily he cuts
through the baddies.

I was thinking about also adding the Karma set, to get all the
Knockback protection I could, but I'm thinking the Defense that it
offers is more important than the extra protection.

After a bit of checking I found that Gallimaufry had enough cash to buy
one, a defense one for 5 mil.

Now I just have to get it transferred over to Bonnie.

The trial thing won't work for me since I don't do credit cards and I'm
just not going to waste a time card just to access the trial, even if it
could be done over dialup.

It leaves me with a "wasted" power for CJ and hurdle instead of swift to
go with fly, but at least cj+hurdle give quite respectable height that's
useful in missions.

To answer my own question - very vital.

Low levels it was fine, but the freaks and warriors are laying me out at
least 25% of the fight time due to hammers and shotguns and warrior
axes.

Hope I bump into one of you guys online on Victory soon so I can get
that recipe transferred to her.
