Exactly... only without all the other aircraft now to add interest and
flexibility. I could accept this if we'd be getting an EECH-style
campaign to make the environment 'live', but we're not. Ok, the new
mission editor should be a welcome improvement (even more so if we still
had the other aircraft), but I -- very sadly -- no longer trust ED to
create something I care about. There have been too many lost
opportunities and false dawns over the last decade. Flanker2 disappointed
me by promising much more than it delivered. LOMAC disappointed me by
wasting development time on multiple aircraft instead of a decent
battlefield engine. And Flaming Cliffs disappointed me by adding the most
wonderful flight model to the most underpowered aircraft, and by still
not addressing the lousy AI behaviour.
I'm sure the BS modelling will be impressive. For those with the time and
inclination to get deep into the weapons & avionics of the Ka-50 I'm sure
it'll be a superb experience. But my fascination with such things peaked
with Tornado, a long time ago. In recent years I care much more about
what's going on *outside* my cockpit than what's happening inside it, and
without a convincing combat environment I can get involved with, I have
no incentive to learn the systems.
Ok, I've lapsed into a Boxing Day whinge. How pathetic.

It must be
time to fire up Crysis again and have some fun.

PS I will no doubt buy BS eventually, just because it might be the only
combat sim out in 2008. But I imagine it'll get flown as much the 25T
did... hardly at all. Here's hoping I'm very wrong!
