I tend to play as "myself" when I play a game so the only characters and
heroes I pay attention to are always male. I like it when females show up
as NPCs and want to join my party (eye candy is good) but I cant seem to
bring myself to play one. I know thats a limitation in myself but, hey, Im
old.

Admire? I don't really see virtual characters (who, in strategy games,
are usually not more that a name and a bonus for their unit) are
rolemodels.
In well-written CRPGs it's a different matter, but there it depends
entirely on how the character is written.

Either gender is good, if the story is good, like at the movies. In
role-playing games sometimes I find more fun playing females, if I have a
good idea for the character and the game allows for a good implementation (I
really enjoyed playing "Morrowind" with what basically was a Jedi female
apprentice), but it is not me - again, to me it's like reading a novel where
