ZORK Nem is one of my favourite games, but I'm unable to replay it on WIN
XP. I have both the Activision [WIN 95] and XPLOSIV [WIN 98] versions and
have applied both Mordack's and Inferno's solutions - to no avail !!
Is it possible that someone has succeeded in installing The Forbidden Lands
to function on WIN XP with the appropriate 'tweakings' that work and who
could copy that XP executable version and sell/deal it to me ??
I don't think that is piracy per se but more of an 'aftermarket solution'
given that I already have acquired two non-functioning copies of the game.

The original Activision version is supposed to be the one that works on
XP. Have you looked at both setups on Inferno's site? One gives
instructions for running it off the hard drive.

What exactly is failing? I believe it makes use of Quicktime, if it
does, it will be a very old version. Maybe that is the cause of your
problems?

What caused many problems on my Win98, was the autorun which was on
*every* CDrom of my "Novitas" version. I had to turn autostart off.
Pressing the shift key while inserting the CD helps, too.

Ah, Information. A property, too valuable these days, to give it away,
just so, at no cost.

Thanks for responding. I previously used the instructions on Inferno's site
but to no avail. I'm going to try it again with both versions.
I had hoped to hear from someone who had used the instructions successfully

If you can describe what goes wrong, maybe someone will be able to
help. For what it's worth, I've had ZN (original Activision release)
installed on my XP system (it's not here right now, though) and it
played fine. I don't remember if I had to do anything special, though.

Thanks for responding. My problem is the failure of the game to recognize
Disc !. I have loaded the game according to 'Inferno's' instructions [ and
added new instructions to the NEMESIS.ZIX file ] but still get the "Load
CD1" message even when the disc is loaded.
I am now going to re-load the NEMESIS.ZIX file with the alternate set of
instructions provided by Robert Gault and see what happens.

I got it ! ! !
Used the 'original' solution by Mordack.
It seems I had the answer all along BUT had made some coding errors; i.e.
neglected placement of critical spaces.
It is working great. Thanks to all who responded ................ Regards

Since you didn't quote anything before your message above, who are you
thanking for responding to your previous message?
