Post subject: YAGBU proposal

Rather than adding new information, this is a proposal on how to make
the guidebook easier to use. IMO the section on starting skills should
be ordered by skill instead of race and class. When I use this table it
is because I want to create a character with specific abilities (e.g. a
monk with gemology), and the proposed ordering is more useful for this.

I also feel it is unnecessary to list common starting skills (like
haggling) as also race/class dependant. The new table could then be
merged with the sections on acquiring skills to make a complete list on
how to obtain skills.

A (poorly formated) example of how this might look like is below the

All skills can be gained at random from potions and scrolls of
education. All skills can be wished for unless otherwise specified.

Bards start with a random selection of skills and can gain additional
random skills as a class power.

Alchemy
-Starting skill for Assassins, Necromancers and Wizards
-Starting skill for Merchants who specialize in potions

Alertness
-Starting skill for Drakelings and Dark Elves
-Starting skill for Archers, Assassins, Healers, Monks, Rangers and
Thiefs
-Cannot be wished for

Appraising
-Starting skill for Merchants, Necromancers, Thiefs and Weaponsmiths

Archery
-Starting skill for Hurthlings
-Starting skill for Archers, Assassins, Farmers, Fighters and Rangers

Athletics
-Starting skill for Trolls
-Starting skill for Barbarians, Beastfighters, Fighters, Monks,
Paladins, Rangers and Weaponsmiths

Backstabbing
-Starting skill for Orcs
-Starting skill for Assassins and Thiefs
-Gained from Bart in exchange for Golden Gladius

Bridge Building
-Starting skill for Trolls
-Starting skill for Farmers
-Gained from Yrrigs after leading him to Jharod

Climbing
-Guaranteed starting skill

Concentration
-Starting skill for Archers, Druids, Elementalists, Healers,
Mindcrafters, Monks, Necromancers, Paladins, Priests, Weaponsmiths and
Wizards

Cooking
-Starting skill for Hurthlings
-Starting skill for Farmers and Healers

Courage
-Gained from the Old Barbarian after completing his quest if not
chaotic

Detect Item Status
-Starting skill for Merchants and Priests

Detect Traps
-Starting skill for Dwarfs
-Starting skill for Assassins, Thiefs and Weaponsmiths
-Gained from Yergius for money after completing his quest if not lawful

Disarm Traps
-Starting skill for Thiefs
-Gained from Yergius for money after completing his quest if not lawful

Dodge
-Starting skill for Gray Elves and High Elves
-Starting skill for Archers, Assassins, Barbarians, Beastfighters,

Gemology
-Starting skill for Gnomes and Trolls
-Starting skill for Elementalists, Merchants and Mindcrafters

Haggling
-Guaranteed starting skill

Healing
-Starting skill for Beastfighters, Druids, Elementalists, Healers,
Monks, Paladins, Priests, Rangers and Wizards
-Gained from Jharod after showing mercy if not chaotic
-Gained from Kranf Niest with stat losses and slight corruption after
completing quest to kill Jharod
-Cannot be wished for

Herbalism
-Starting skill for Barbarians, Beastfighters, Druids, Farmers,
Healers, Merchants, Mindcrafters, Necromancers, Priests, Rangers and
Wizards
-Gained from Guth'Alak if chosen after completing his quest

Law
-Starting skill for Paladins who start lawful
-Gained from Tywat Pare after completing both his quests

Listening
-Guaranteed starting skill

Literacy
