Fanboys are as old as videogame systems and their increasing
popularity. This goes back pre-SNES/Genesis days actually, even if it
was less so. There used to be fanboyism over home computers. I know I
was an Atari 8bit one, and kept up the good fight until my Atari 800
had its software removed from the shelves at EB.

As for the derogatory name, you can thank The Big Merc (aka, Merck
Drug) for that. And yes, there is tweaking of the name on the part.
Merk acts like a shill for Sony, or a Mercenary, so I go with the
shortened name for a Mercenary (Merc). Also one recent mutation had
Merck as the spelling which is just like Merck Drug, the pharmaceutical
company.

It's not SOME people, it's Blig Merk. This 10 year-old is basically jealous
of the 360's success and comes up with many reasons to insult it. I'm
assuming, by the way he behaves, that he's some kid that hates the fact that
all of his friends have a girlfriend but that no girl, not even the ugliest
troll out there, wants to go out with him so he lashes out. I would even say
that he probably lives in a neighbourhood where everyone but he has an XBOX
360, and he's lashing out against the system entirely as a result (instead
of his parents who didn't get him the 360 in favour of a Spongebob
Squarepants pyjama set).

To be fair there are a fair number of posts in the opposite direction.
problem with that is all the middle grounders have to suffer because
of this cretin and the folks who behave just as badly by flooding the
ps2 group.

I am hoping it will linger, as the ps1 has, though the early
appearance of the slimline doesn't bode well for that.
